PARIS, Aug. 5 - Britain aside, the response in Europe to the latest announcement of terror threats in the United States has ranged from official calm to unofficial cynicism.

Since the Bush administration raised the terror alert to orange for five financial targets in and around New York and Washington, European governments have left their risk assessments unchanged. ...

As evidenced in the Madrid bombings... they will probably never alert their population to any danger... they just pay off the terrorists for security. As one Freeper so elequently put it. "Feed the Tiger... get eaten by the tiger".

they said their national intelligence services had unearthed nothing to suggest that terror attacks on European soil were more likely than before.

So? The threats aren't in Europe. NYTimes plays this like a snub of the Bush administration. Maybe the "counterrorism directors" of Japan, Mexico, etc. are on vacation too.

When we get any reports of threats targeting places in Europe, I'm sure we'll do the same. Places all over the US have had their risk assessments left unchanged too. This is a non-story trying to look like a story.
