Keyes's political viability will end here, and that's a shame. but more than that, is the severe blow that his defeat will deliver to the conservative message.

After this, it will become political fact that a candidate running on a strong pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-Constitution platform will be unelectable, the example being the resounding defeat of a pro-life, pro-second Amendment, pro-Constitution Conservative icon at the hands of a relative newcomer to politics.

Not only that, but I can almost guarantee you that the loss will be blamed on Bush and the RNC, and that the blame game will be in full swing in October/November.

Agreed. But I repeat what I posted earlier. This is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in the GOP in Illinois. There is no reason it should have even come to this “draft Keyes” movement. I like Keyes, but he has no business in Illinois politics. No good can come out of his running there. Carpetbagging was wrong for Hillary & is wrong here (as Keyes quote will come back and haunt him). Let’s be consistent here, people.

And again, there should be no reason a viable candidate from Illinois can’t be found to run. The GOP in Illinois is scared of Obama and frankly, that is embarrassing. I’m glad I no longer live in Illinois.

This whole affair is embarrassing & embarrassing for the GOP nationally.
