The voters will defeat Keyes, badly. Does that prove ANYTHING about the principle here? It's freakin' amazing to me how so many Freepers will waive the constitution about ANY issue until it affects them in an election . . . then, suddenly, it's "out of date" or irrelevant.

Alan, as long as he establishes residency, meets the Constitutional requirements.

You are raising parochialism to the level of constitutionalism.

Your argument doesn't hold water.

"A moral principle is a moral principle."

What moral principle is that?
You cant run in a district you dont live in?
My dog-eared copies of Kant, Aquinas, and The Bible seems to have skipped that 'principle'.

And quit making incorrect analogies. Running in an election has nothing to do with oral sex. Well, usually not. :-)

You continue to valiantly argue against strawmen.

You calling other people opinions petty is not the least bit humorous.

It would help if carping Republicans would just get behind Keyes and help him out.

Why waste energy that will just make Obama more likely to win?

give the dems the same pathetic story that we got when they pulled torricelli off the ticket and replaced him with lautenberg -- if we don't send in a carpetbagger, then millions of republican and otherwise pro-life [insert other alan keyes positions here] will be disenfranchised. they will be denied their right to vote for the candidate of their choice!

You're right.

The IL GOP can chose whomever they want. There's nothing immoral about asking for help out of state, especially when the Dems have made this a national race.

Obama ... he travels out of state to raise funds for his campaign. He was given a prime speaking spot at the convention. The Democrats are grooming this guy for the White House. The IL GOP had to do something drastic.

In New York, Hillary wasn't needed. There's no shortage of powerful liberals to take that seat. She ran because it is the only state she could have won in. She CREATED the opportunity.

Some asked Keyes if he would go in and do the same thing, create an opportunity for himself and run for Senate in New York. He said on air that he would never do that. He's still true to his word. It's all about what the people want. Illinois chose Keyes for this, drafted him. It’s their choice, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

seeking private gain . . . a nonresident or new resident who meddles in politics

Excellent! Per your definition, Keyes is NOT a carpetbagger.

Since the IL GOP drafted Keyes for this, it's their choice. We have no right to tell them they can't pick whomever they choose.

I say we get behind their nominee, and support his election. That is, unless you think giving the Dems talking points is a better use of time.

What is Dr. Keyes' position on the Bush Doctrine of pre-emption?

I am sure Keyes supports the War on Terror as Pres Bush is waging it. dont know his detailed positions. you can go to

http://renewamerica.us

for some of Keyes commentary.

one thing is clear: Given the missouri vote on Gay Marriage, Keyes should run on opposition to gay marriage.
If Obama can be pegged in the other corner, keyes would win (a la Pete wilson 1994).

Ditto.

Anyone who bagged on the Hillabeast for carpet bagging who now supports this move by Keyes should be hanging their head in shame.

This "Well, it was alright when she did it" spin is nauseating...

It's still carpetbagging. And it stinks of racial tokenism.

Race? Funny, when I look at these two, I don’t see black, I see rhetorical brilliance. Obama is a oratorical genius, more appealing to Dems than Bill Clinton. Alan Keyes is a oratorical master. He was chosen for his ability to debate. I hope you're not saying race is relevant.

By the way, per Howlin's definition, it's impossible to claim Keyes is a carpetbagger. "Carpetbagger: a Northerner in the South after the American Civil War usually seeking private gain . . . a nonresident or new resident who meddles in politics."

Carpetbagging is about going where you're NOT wanted, seeking state to move to for political gain, and creating your political opportunity. Like Hillary.

The IL GOP wants Keyes. There's nothing immoral about answering their call for help. Keyes has little to gain from it, and is unquestionably the underdog.

A person is not a carpetbagger if he was drafted by the state.

Illinois chose Keyes, not the other way around. Instead of criticizing their choice, we should get behind it and stop the infighting that does nothing but help the Democrats.

Carpet bagging is carpet bagging. Keyes has never lived there, he shouldn't run for office there.

You have no right to tell the IL GOP who they can and can't chose.
