Soldiers need sponsors...OperationAC
e-mail | 08/05/04

August 3, 2004

You had signed up during Operation Iraqi Freedom to adopt a soldier on my website (www.operationac.com) last year on 9/22/03. I am writing because I have more soldiers asking for a sponsor than I have Americans to write to them and send them care packages with powdered drink mixes and personal care items. There is still a large need for that as well as just providing a soldier or marine some support from home. I now have the soldier's email address to give to people who will adopt a soldier. They don't get to email very often, but it is nice to be able to email them when they have access to email. I know when my son was there he got to email me about twice a month.

If you want to re-sign up, please visit my website and fill in the adopt-a-soldier form again. Here is the link: https://www58.safesecureweb.com/operationac/AdoptASoldier.aspx

If you do not want to participate, please accept my apology for emailing you.

Thank you for helping our troops.

I received this e-mail today and thought it would be a good idea to pass it along to Freepers. I had no idea they were still in need of sponsors. If anyone is interested, their website is listed in the e-mail.

I volunteered on this site early this week and have received no confirmation from them or any communication. What else are we supposed to?

They will (snail) mail you the name of your soldier. It takes them a couple of weeks but you should get his/her name and address in a letter.

I don't understand, why isn't the army providing boots and other needed items?

I didn't send my first soldier boots (although I would of if he had asked for them!). Mostly I sent goodies, toilet items, magazines, etc. Just things that tell them we appreciate what they do for us everyday and it's a small way of showing that appreciation. Also we wrote a few times to each other (snail mail). This e-mail indicates that they now have some e-mail addresses which will make it much easier to communicate.

Diamond,

I received an e-mail today about my new soldier. Did you get one?

Yes, we got our soldier, yay!!!!!!!!!!. My family and I are very excited. I'm going to try and send him everything under the sun, financially permitting of course. I think every freeper should do this if they can afford it.

How many soldiers did you adopt?

This is a great idea, however, I sent my soldier a pair of boots almost 3 months ago (yes--from Altima for $100) and I have heard nothing. I haven't gotten the return receipt yet and have not gotten any mail from him, either. I sent cards and letters with return self-addressed envelopes and haven't heard anything.
I am a little discouraged.

Did you have the boots sent directly from the website or did you have them delivered to you and repackage and send them? They warned in the e-mail I got that if you are going to buy your soldier boots, have them sent to you and resend them in a plain brown box. They are being stolen if sent in the original box.

Also, my first soldier wrote me a letter (snail mail) and it took FOREVER for me to get it. Don't be discourage...they are kinda busy too. ;o)

No, just one for now. I'm promoting this to everyone I know. Every soldier should be adopted!

Do you have any email for him. I understand that sometimes they get rotated which causes a delay in them getting it and their response to you.

Try emailing.

No, I had them sent to me and I repackaged them along with some other goodies. I knew better than to send them in the original box. :)
Today I filled out a form for the post office to trace it. I had it insured with return receipt requested. I just would feel really bad if he needs the boots and doesn't get them. I would have gotten them for my son-in-law, but my daughter assured me that he had more than enough uniforms, so I was happy to help someone else.

We adopted a Marine through www.operationmilitarysupport.com. It seems they are out of names right now.

I was at the post office mailing our soldier some beef jerky, and the clerk told me his nephew is in Iraq, and that his nephew had just mailed him a list of seven soldiers who are not getting any mail. So I told the clerk to mail me the list, and I would find people who want to "adopt" a soldier.

If you are interested, Freepmail me! I should get the list of names in the mail any day now.

About the only items that I have mailed in it's orginal packages are books from Amizon. All other packages I re-wrap and mail.

I would have happily emailed, except all I had was his APO address.
