WASHINGTON (AP) -- A wealthy Texan and prolific Republican donor is helping bankroll a television ad assailing Democrat John Kerry's decorated military record in the Vietnam War.

Houston homebuilder Bob J. Perry has donated at least $100,000 to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a suburban Washington-based group airing a new ad in which Vietnam veterans who served on swiftboats accuse the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his war record.

The group bought $500,000 of airtime for the 60-second ad to air in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Ohio and West Virginia.

The effort is reminiscent of a 2000 effort that helped drive George W. Bush's then-rival John McCain from the presidential race.

Looks NOTHING like MoveOn.org funding anti-Bush messages...

So what exactly is the news--that people who don't want Kerry to win fund ads against him, or that those who knew Kerry say he's lying about his record?

God bless this evil subverter of campaign finance reform for giving swift boat vets a microphone.

Wonder who will be the first in mainstream media to actually look into the accuracy of the allegations. I know that is a weird angle, but you would think someone in the multi-billion dollar news business might seek that angle.

This is news? Does anyone really think that those for Kerry or those neutral on Kerry would fund ads such as this?

totally evil according to this story: dares to be a republican, lives in the state of Texas, and has even contributed to the republicans. Is now actually contributing to a group of war heroes.

When will republicans ever learn? This is Kerry's mess and they will have it smeared all over them because they do not have the cajones to go after Kerry. Meanwhile Kerry himself questioned Bush's service, and they call the President "AWOL" and "deserter." And as always the republican timidity gets good people hurt. This is a group of war hero veterans, for goodness sake!

When will they reveal that George Soros has donated ONE HUNDRED TIMES AS MUCH to attempt to defeat Bush?

I find it quite interesting that the Left is fixated upon comparative irrelevancies such as funding as opposed to the truth and substance of the matter.

We certainly couldn't expect a Leftist group to fund this, could we?

The implication is that because money has come from X source, this means that the content of the ad is automatically discredited. By this "logic" we should then discount everything that George Soros has funded.

"Wonder who will be the first in mainstream media to actually look into the accuracy of the allegations."

I have been thinking about that too. Lets hope it doesn't backfire....I'm hoping it goes the other way and we get some refreshing truth about an issue John Kerry has pounded way too hard into those on the fence.

McCain was not driven from the presidential race. He lost the primaries.

What bull.

That's nothing, compared to the pinko commie george soreass, who has given $12,000.000 to the pinko commies in bowelmoveon.org. What is the big deal? We need more True Americans like Bob J. Perry.
