A candidate hoping to unseat U.S. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, in November has filed a notice to withdraw a lawsuit challenging her candidacy. Tom Bazan, an independent candidate for the 18th Congressional District, did not file his lawsuit on time and filed notice Monday to withdraw it, his attorney said. Bazan had claimed Jackson Lee had failed to file her application in time for the Democratic primary earlier this year.

That's the Houston Comical for you, they don't want to play up to the public that yes there is another candidate. He's Libertarian candidate Tom Bazan.
The Houston Press is no fan of Queen Sheila but they also saw fit to ridicule this other guy.

Houston Press?
I thought the Houston Chronicle bought them 30 or 40 years ago.

The original Houston Press closed down decades ago (I don't know when or under what circumstances). The Comical bought the Houston Post in the 1990s (this was not considered a monopoly by the Clinton Administration).
There has been a freebie weekly tabloid paper (with a lot of sex ads in the back) calling itself The Houston Press since the 1990s.

Actually, the Houston Press is one of those free alternative newspapers in Houston. They have an occasional interesting article, but mostly they thrive on the GLBT artisan advertising dollar.
You're probably thinking of the Houston Post which was bought out probably 15 years ago or so.

Nope the Houston Press was there in the 1950s.
They were three papers in Houston.
The Houston Post (which was very good until bought by a Canadian company and later bought by the Chronicle and shut down).
The Press was only a 6 day paper (no Sunday edition)was
bought by the chronicle and shut down.
A friend of mine here in Huntsville was the Press outdoor editor.
I found the new Houston Press on the web.

Thanks for that info. As someone who didn't move to Texas until 1980, I never had heard that before.
The Houston Press of 50 years ago would bear no resemblance to today's edition.
