John Kerry speaks Thursday to the Unity 2004 conference of minority journalists in Washington.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Thursday he would have handled news of the al Qaeda attacks on New York and the Pentagon differently than President Bush did. "I would have excused myself from the classroom quickly," said Kerry.

"I would have excused myself from the classroom quickly," said Kerry. If Bush would have left the classroom, they would be accusing him of running from the scene of where he thought the next plane was about to crash...abandoning the kids to let them die in the explosion.
That isn't hyperbole, it's precisely what they would be saying.

What people like Kerry either don't know or fail to mention is that, even before Bush was informed of the second hijacked plane having hit the WTC, NORAD had already responded by putting two F-15 Eagles in the air, the FAA had already responded by beginning to warn all other commercial aircraft about the hijackings, and the Pentagon had already responded by moving its alert status up one notch from Normal to Alpha.
All Kerry has said that he would have down differently from Bush is that he would've gotten up and left the classroom after being informed of the second plane hitting the WTC. But what would Kerry have done next? As usual, Kerry is short on details.

He's really pathetic. I almost feel sorry for him until I remember that he wants to destroy our country.

Exactly. Or it could be that there were some procedures already in place. For example, in the case of a national emergency the President is to stay in a secure environment. Obviously the classroom was an already secure environment because it had been scoped out and secret service agents were already in place. Now should the President under his own authority get up and leave? Is the hallway secure? How about the parking lot? Do you have your agents in place?
The President probably left when he was assured that the situation was secure enough for him to leave. Let your people do their jobs.

Kerry would have jumped up and fled the room, while stomping little children in his rush to get out.

I recall Nancy Pelosi saying that Democrats "could have brought down that statue [of Hussein] cheaper."
It's always easier to make "coulda, shoulda, woulda" claims when you're not the one with the job.

I first found out about 9/11 when I got up and went to the Star Tribune web site. They had chosen the preceding evening to change the format of their site, and I thought someone had hacked their site when I saw the pictures.

It looks like he's running out of things to comment on, so his handlers are suggesting this. On the other hand, he's a politician, so he'll NEVER run out of things to talk about. Especially if it's about him.

And another thing...
Focusing on the "seven minutes" is just like how the defense in the Rodney King case slowed down the videotape into fraction-of-seconds slo-mo and asked "what were you thinking/doing now? and now? and now?"
Why is it that the Democrats do stuff like focus on the "16 words" in the State Of The Union address to the exclusion of all else, or Bush's "seven minutes" to exclusion of the rest of his term, or Kerry's "four months in Vietnam" to the exclusion of his years at Lt. Governor of MA and decades in the Senate? < /rhetorical question>

No matter how Bush reacted that day, somone would have complained.Precisely. If the president had abruptly excused himself and bolted for the door who can doubt that would have been described as a panic by Demonrats Kerry and others?

My birthday is on 9/11 and I forgot about it till that evening when a friends daughter mentioned it. Truely one of the strangest days of my life.
I went to a friends house in Jackson and the streets were nearly deserted, no jets in the sky or anything. We went to fill up the cars that day and there were cops sitting in the station parking lots.
Just all around weird.
