President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people." Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.
The president was working his way toward a larger point. "We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking," he said.
Kerry must never misspeak, since it's never on the news. Right?
Anyone get the impression that GWB doesn't really want re-election?
and?
Leno and Letterman are going to have a field day with this.
This actually made the papers?
Has the AP done a story on the Swift Boats Vets?
I noticed that today when he gave his speech. I kinda cringed a little. Actually the sentened was structured as a dangling modifier. It could have been interpreted two ways. One of which was to harm our nation. Looks like the AP chose that one to pick up on.
Agreed. If Kerry would have misspoke no leftist media organization would have picked it up.
We never saw on camera Kerry getting embarassed by that Marine in Wendys but this will be played over-n-over for the next 89 days.
My God, Ap has to write a STORY about this ??? Once again proving AP's liberal anti-Bush, Anti-American ways.
Explain?
What's wrong with this? He's talking about proactive defense... in the context of his other remarks, he says we're looking at our weaknesses the same way the terrorists are. The obvious (unless you're a MSM moron) implication is that we're looking for these dangers so that we can fix them.
From the second quote it seems as if Bush was trying to say we are trying to stay one step ahead of the terrorists.. "they are always looking for ways to harm us and so are we."
Maybe I'm just trying to put a nice spin on it. :)
Oy.
The debates could get ugly.
No. What's your evidence?
No, anything anti-Kerry is not a story for AP. They think news is Bush making a mistake all of us make everyday. Sheesh. The press is unfreepin believable.
Well, gee, Bush is human just like the rest of us. Who hasn't made a mistake while speaking. Contrast him to Kerry's canned robot style of speaking.
Bush did not say that we don't stop thinking about how to harm this country. That's a reconstruction of the sentence syntax that just doesn't wash.
Sigh.
HAH. Ah well, I guess this will get more air-time than that little non-issue about sandy what-his-name.
