Singer Linda Ronstadt has canceled her September concerts, including two shows at Bass Hall, scheduled for Sept. 14-15, the venue announced Thursday. "It was Ms. Ronstadt's decision to cancel her September date," said Paul Beard, managing director of Bass Hall. "Our role was to accept that outcome and respond as we would to any other cancellation." Two other Ronstadt concerts in Fayetteville, Ark., scheduled for Sept. 17-18 at the Walton Performing Arts Center, were canceled as well.
The cancellations come on the heels of her July 17 concert in Las Vegas during which she championed filmmaker Michael Moore, whose new movie, Fahrenheit 9/11,<.i> criticizes President Bush. Ronstadt's comments angered some audience members, causing them to leave and tear down posters; Ronstadt was escorted from the casino.
Calls to Ronstadt's agent and publicist were not immediately returned Thursday morning. Ticket refunds are available through Bass' box office. Call (817) 212-4280.
TEXAS IS BUSH COUNTRY
Ticket sales down, are they, Linda?
She needed to fill half of the place up in order to pay the promoter and the facility...and I doubt that they had reached the 20 percent yet...with less than four weeks to go. Same for Arkansas. She is a run-down has-been, and her big audience was in Vegas. She should have realized that. She had a chance to get a gig every two or three months in Vegas for a weekend, and make some cash. That chance is long-gone.
A chill wind is blowing... < /hutton>
There might be *GASP* Conservatives in the Audience.
Folks in TX don't much care for Ms. Ronstadt.
You mean there are consequences for actions? You really do reap what you sow? I thought liberalism was invented to negate responsibility? Obviously more work needs to be done!
She's a coward. She thought she could be part of the "in" crowd by her actions but she can't take the heat. Let her got hide with Michael Moore.
HA HA
HEY Linda maybe it wasn't good idea to run smack chat on Dubya and war effort
HA HA
...or, even worse, Christians.
Or *GASP* Christians.Or even bigger *GASP* fundamentalists.
Of course she cancelled, there's a lot of people who know how to rope...she'd be hog-tied in the blink of an eye...
There's always the Ramada Inn circuit.
Poor little has-been...
No one wants to hear her sing anymore.
If she doesn't want conservatives in her audience, then we don't want liberals on the stage.
Lemme ask you, Linda sweetie: Was it all worth it? To champion that crazy weenie Michael Moore and then watch as your non-existent career spirals even further down the toilet?
I didn't think so.
Ronstadt never could sing bass, anyway.
Haven't you heard?
Linda is suffering from a "chronic, debilitating disease" which explains away her weird actions.
She has Hashimoto's Disease.
I think it's Japanese for "cranio-anal insertion syndrome."
