In comments that received virtually no press coverage in the United States, Duelfer testified that Iraq was "preserving and expanding its knowledge to design and develop nuclear weapons." One Iraqi laboratory "was intentionally focused on research applicable for nuclear weapons development," the top weapons inspector said.

What is CNN......?

"There is still no evidence that any US city was ever devastated by an Iraqi nuclear weapon. Therefore, Bush lied to us." [/sarcasm]

Let's not forget that we DID get our hands on many of Saddam's WMD - the scientists and skilled technicians. It is one thing to find the fish (bombs, shells, poisons, etc.) but quite another to find the fishermen (scientists, etc.) to borrow an old parable.

Saddam Hussein had an active nuclear weapons development program at the time of the U.S. invasion in March 2003, chief U.S. weapons inspector Charles Duelfer has told Congress.

I'm sure that the reason why President Bush isn't apologizing for the absence of WMD is that President Bush still isn't convinced that there wasn't WMD, and I've heard him say as much in interviews. But what he needs to do is to tell the American people, "It's possible that there were no WMD in Iraq but we haven't finished our investigations. Rather than rushing into a statement that may have to be corrected later, I'm withholding my final judgement until the investigation is done.'
