Democratic Party funds diverted to Boston bank
Federal grand jury probes handling of $200,000 in campaign donations

By EDDIE CURRAN

MONTGOMERY -- Perhaps as much as $200,000 in campaign donations made to the Alabama Democratic Party in August and September of 1999 were diverted to a Boston bank, according to people who have testified before a federal grand jury in Montgomery, are set to testify in the future, and others familiar with the matter.

It's not clear from those interviewed who controlled the money at the time or why the donations weren't initially included on the party's donor records. The federal grand jury, which has been convening regularly at U.S. District Court since June, is known to be reviewing a host of activities that occurred when Don Siegelman was governor. They include a change in the way the state taxes hazardous waste and donations made to a foundation created by Siegelman to raise funds for the 1999 lottery referendum.

Good - GOOD... let's be sure not to talk about SANDY BERGER!

Not sure what you mean by that in regard to this article but we can talk about that too.

If Siegelman Doesn't end up in prison over all this corruption, justice will not have been done.

I left Alabama in 1993, well before Siegelman was elected as governor. But my recollection is that, even then, he had earned a heady reputation for corruption.

Which won him election to the Attorney General's office about that time, as I recall.

Yup. Siegelman. However, the whole Demo party here is corrupt. Maybe Alvin Holmes can go out for drinks and drive up 65 daring the police to stop him. He's a lesgislator, you know.
