Well it'll be a good fight but Illinois is pretty solidly for Obama. Best this can do is get the Republicans from committing suicide...IMO.
Don't get me wrong. I supported Keyes in 2000 but the Obama lovefest in the MSM is just a huge force to reckon with.
The GOP should think more about putting up candidates who are laser-sharp on issues when they finsd themselves in these long=shot situations. If nothing else, the campaign can win awareness which will help in campaigns down the road. Yes Keyes should run agains Obama, but his main criticisms should be saved for Senator Dick Durbin.
That could not be further from the truth. Alan will sweep a huge number of votes in the southern part of the state. And the Catholics in Cook County will come to him in droves.
Done deal guys. There's a real conservative coming to the Senate from Illinois.
The race was lost when Ryan quit likely.
But, perhaps we can still win if Kerry runs the campaign of a lifetime and actually gets a good campaign team this time.
No, the best thing it can do is to bring out the party faithful and give Bush as shot at Illinois. Keyes will probably lose, but I don't think Illinois Democrats are enamored with Kerry, so they might take a pass on Kerry or even vote their pocket books and their security concerns and pull the lever for Bush.
Obama is a shoe in. But Bush can win Illinois if enough hard line conservatives turn out for Keyes.
