It's official! Yahoo!
Keyes called her a carpetbagger.
Thank God for his clarity. Hopefully it serves him well in making a decision here.
But no,other Ill.Conservatives will just not pull the lever for him and some just plain GOPers won't.
Alan turns a LOT of people off,by his condescension and his treatment of President Bush.Luckily, for Alan,he isn't all that well known by many, but once he open his mouth,it is NOT going to help him one bit and the carpetbagger thing is really going to hurt. All the Dems will have to do,is to play his own words back, when he talked about Hillary.
Let me help you with some of this. Keyes ran statewide in Maryland against a reasonable articlute white liberal, and lost big. Now if he runs in Illinois, he will be running against a quite articulate black liberal, with a few tweaks, and will lose even bigger. In neither case will Keyes break 10% of the black vote. Does that help?
Of course, evil can be forgiven (thank God), but Luis has taken issue with me even referring to evil leftists as evil when it's a perfectly Biblical word/description. That's just bizarre to argue that people (OR behavior) can be evil but you better not call them that. How PC of him.
At least those with influence in the Illinois GOP don't seem to be as hateful, since they're the ones asking Keyes to run. I hope they are right and can help him get elected or at least do well.
There is a less than ZERO chance of a Keyes win.
By the way, nobody ever did give us a source for that quote. Tonight was the first time I ever heard it.
Welcome to the club. :-)
So? The fact that they're wrong doesn't make me wrong. Watch out for the implicit moral relativism.
Unless you can come up with another candidate that would have a chance to win, pointing out Keyes can't win is not relevant to the argument. Most of us who support this candidacy don't expect him to win.
Sometime the point of a campaign isn't just to win, but to spread your message to lay the groundwork for a future victory. Barry Goldwater got troucnced, but he laid the groundwork for Reagan.
Nobody, not even people in and around Chicago, takes hot dogs more seriously than New Yorkers! :-)
So do I, Howlin. So do I.
I also know what the meaning of "is" is - just like I know what the meaning of "evil" and "the bullet that kills you" is, in the context it was used by Keyes.
I wish him well, however, and if he should manage to win, I hope he can control his tendency to judge President Bush's heart the way he has in the past.
Sure. I'll take their judgement over the ranting old cranks on this thread, anyday. At the absolute worst, Dr. Keyes' candidature will take the shine off Obama's star.
You all are making total asses out of yourselves.
I haven't read the whole thread. Why do you say less than zero chance?
Granted I have some concerns about Allan that Baraka could probably find something against him to exploit, but if Allan slows it down a bit and deal with every issue brought against him he might do well.
The fact that Obama is a democrat in leadership that's backing Kerry says he might have a few flaws that haven't been dealt with.
There is nothing hypocritical about someone complaining about someone else breaking the rules, and then later following suit; the first person who broke the rules and got away with it demonstrated that the "rule" didn't really apply.
Hypocracy would be for the person who broke the rules first to complain when others follow suit.
Except for the Illinois election hasn't happened yet. We have never seen how Keyes does running against a black liberal --- I don't know if Obama is articulate -- I'll take your word for it --- but I doubt he is any match for Keyes as far as being articulate. I think there are more than 10% Conservative blacks. Maybe not in Illinois --- but the Illinois Republican party apparently chose Keyes for some reason.
"He can respond that he was drafted."
"If you recall, Charlie Rangel "drafted" Hillary."
Come on, be serious. No one in America takes that shell game seriously. The NYT wouldn't buy that.
What are you implying? That somebody on this forum made it up?
