It's official! Yahoo!
And indeed, I've seen no evidence they're taking it seriously now either.
Your fallacy is in assuming that there are two wrongs. The fact is, one (Hillary) is wrong for reasons already stated, and the other (Keyes) is right. You are begging the question to assert that Keyes would be wrong.
Re your reaction "Exorcist" comment in reaction to my use of the word evil: I love the word evil precisely because leftists scream (like the witch in the wizard of Oz when drenched in water) when people like Reagan or Bush used it about our enemies. "Evil" is a good word, and that is exactly what those rats are. Hardly means means we're in the Exorcist here.
Let Bill Clinton declare his candidacy for Bob Graham's seat before he actually moves to Florida, and you will see the "immoral carpetbagger" charges fly in this forum.
That's because Slick Willie would be moving to Florida undoubtedly to do evil.
We do not have to be fair to EVIL.
Kind of the same general message as the left's "anybody but Bush" argument, isn't it?
By your definition, then, the term does not apply. Keyes did not "seek" this responsibility...and certainly is not being presumptuous at all.
Yep.
Keyes got my vote in the primary as well as a contribution to his campaign in 2000. I didn't think he would be out of the limelight long, and he could run circles around Osama Barak in a debate.
Now, we have two black candidates. I realize black voters will still trend 90% Dem, even if both guys are black, but I do wonder if Keyes can capture at least a few socially conservative Christian black voters...maybe get 15% or 20% of the black vote...he'd probably be able to pull off a win that way.
You can repeat it all you want dude, it's wrong, and you're wrong.
Bold face, or caps is not going to make any difference.
Why not run in Virginia or something??
Not the most articulate argument I've seen you give. Yes, we have principles which is precisely WHY we should support Alan Keyes.
And people complain that the national political debate has gotten uncivil.
As I heard the counter lady at the Vienna Beef factory store explain to an outsider once:
"You don't have to say "no ketchup." "No ketchup" comes with."
Mmmm... If it wasn't 11:00 I might run out for a dog right now...
No kidding. Can you see Keyes at Flukey's telling that he want ketchup on his dog ?
On the contrary: if he accepts, he would be, by definition, presumptuously seeking the office.
Bending the definition and nit-picking doesn't make it any more right.
To paraphrase what we all said about Her Crustiness when she ran, "He has never lived there. He doesn't know the people there. He doesn't have an understanding of statewide politics. He doesn't know about the divide between Chicago and downstate. He doesn't understand 'The Chicago Way'."
Keyes had his chance to "reach an entirely new audience with his conservative message" with a Cable TV show no less. He bombed big time.
...and he may just win - greater upsets have happened!
Right. I don't want rain on your parade. Anything is possible.
Now all you naysaying Girlie-men, shape up and show some enthusiasm for a conservative brawler!
Oh no! Huber called us "Girlie-men"!!!!
We demand you post an apology on every active FR thread for penance.
MAYBE we will forgive you.
Please, god, no. We've already got enough problems with our native Republicans.
I've considered the possibility. In fact, I think that the Dems might actually hope for it. But to pull it off, he will actually have to face Keyes ala Lincoln/Douglas and promote it as such. With a few breaks, this is something we can win.
What you suggest is a risk I'm willing to take as an American. As for Illinois, the result is in their hands--and in many ways by our behavior here and elsewhere, ours.
Count me in for a Italian Beef (extra juicy, of course) as long as you're going...
Should make for interesting debates but Mr. Keyes has a somewhat off-putting demeanor.
If it comes down to a 'beauty contest' I think he will suffer the fate of Adlai Stevenson; admired by everyone but unelectable.
