Actually, Keyes may be a useful tool for Obama to move even faster towards being on a national ticket. In fact, I am almost certain of it.

I've considered the possibility. In fact, I think that the Dems might actually hope for it. But to pull it off, he will actually have to face Keyes ala Lincoln/Douglas and promote it as such. With a few breaks, this is something we can win.

What you suggest is a risk I'm willing to take as an American. As for Illinois, the result is in their hands--and in many ways by our behavior here and elsewhere, ours.

The debate would really be grand, I agree. Obama I think really hopes for Keyes. Obama would smash Keyes vis a vis the voters, and Keyes would afford him a lot of running room to do it, both on style and substance. That's my honest opinion.
