It's official! Yahoo!
The presidential and senatorial level.
Hillary.
Bobby Kennedy.
Jay Rockefeller.
The voters don't care.
I thought Alan was quite open about his feelings on the matter in the quotes you yourself posted.
The thoughts and feelings of a man who thinks deeply and cares about the consistency of his actions.
It is quite ironic to see him criticized for making a pragmatic decision by those who have always ripped him for being so danged principled.
Yep. And he'll probably also suggest getting Kerry out of Edwards.
Dick Cheney had to change his VOTER'S REGISTRATION, period.
You're not helping your case with these specious arguments. If you're happy that Keyes can disregard his own words and run, so be it. It's not my state.
But don't try to drag Dick Cheney into it.
Quit being a fair-weather Republican. Lead, follow or get out of the way.
I was enroute home from an all day wait at the Union League Club when this broke!
WGN now says IL GOP picks Keyes, but Keyes will not answer 'til Sunday?
NOT GOOD. Why would the Republican Party want to do the same thing the Dems did with Hillary Clinton?
Keyes does not live in Illinois; if we can't find an Illinoan to run, then we suck.
Whether or not Bush finds WMDs in Iraq (and I believe the stockpiles of "pesticide" at ammo dumps probably qualifies), did he lie about it? I don't think so. I think he was operating on good information that will eventually prove to be right. But even if it doesn't, that doesn't make him a liar. Just incorrect.
Again as a side note, I've long maintained that WMDs are an unnecessary condition to do what we did in Iraq in a post 9/11 age. I don't care if there never were WMDs there as long as no one lied about it to gain support. We know for a fact that Saddam funded terrorists. Maybe not al queda (but maybe!), but certainly the sorts of people who would look to destroy us utterly using the same means as those who attacked us in 2001.
Actually Keyes is a better pick than Ditka. This is unbelieveable, Keyes should win this race.
This will be fun to watch.
I am rooting for Keyes.
Well, if that's the case -- Keyes having decided once and for all that the residency laws of all states don't apply -- let's have at it.
Everybody run everywhere!
Keyes was just on CBS (in the Chicago area) and announced that he will now CONSIDER the offer and make a decision by Sunday. I guess it's not a done deal yet. If he decides against it the IL GOP will really look like morons (even more than they already do).
Don't get me wrong,I wish Keyes would obliterate Obama, but it won't happen.
No. That's when YOU surrendered.
That's a BS answer and you know it. The New York state Democratic Party "asked" Hillary to be its 2000 Senate candidate, but that didn't make her any less of a carpetbagger.
Again: Has Keyes any ties to Illinois?
Actually, we're both wrong. =)
Lincoln lost his first bid for statewide office (he came in 8th out of 13 candidates). He won his next election to the state legislature three times, then congress, then the state legislature again. He then (as I correctly noted before) won the popular vote agianst Douglas in his bid for the Senate in 1958, but lost it in the state legislature. He then won the Presidency in 1860.
Still, Keyes is hardly comparable.
Oh, I agree; it's great for the ticket. He will give Obama a run for his money.
But let's not get carried away with trying to depict it other than what it is -- opportunism.
"Alan Keys will destroy Obama in the debates."
I do kind of feel sorry for Obama....Keys is one of the best debaters I've ever seen.
I do believe your history of Lincoln is off a bit. How ironic considering your screen name. See post #269.
