" One of the most disturbing trends in politics over the last 12 years has been the propensity of the Democratic Party to nominate certifiable screwballs (Clinton, Gore, Kerry) in presidential races."

Kerry is acting more bizarre each and every day.
Both mentally and physically.
He's probably not doing anything new, it's just getting more play.
He wears make up 24/ 7-those who have seen him close up claim that he looks ill.
When Bob Dole was running in 96, his prostate cancer history was a big deal and he was 5 years out from surgery.
Kerry is 18 months out from his surgery and the media never, ever mentions Kerry's cancer history nor do they express any interest in his medical records.
A bunch of us were batting around the possibility that Kerry might be Torricellied from the ticket and no one knew the answer to our questions-perhaps you do.
Does Edwards automatically ascend to the top or is there some mechanism for picking a new top of the ticket ?
Would Edwards stay at VP or would the new top, pick their own VP ?
In the words of Al Sharpton,I just can't see the Dems riding this donkey to November.

The problem with a "Torricelli" scenario is that the entire Democratic Party would come off looking just as mentally unstable as Kerry is.

As far as selecting a "successor," I'm not sure how that would happen. A lot of this depends on deadlines in individual states to get candidates on ballots. Most of these deadlines come up in September, if I remember correctly -- so a last-minute change like they did in New Jersey isn't really an option.
