I have wondered how Kerry only served 4 months on a swift boat in Vietnam. I recently worked with a Vietnam Veteran who was drafted into the Navy and served on swift boats (PBRs). After his first and second tours ended, he was not allowed to go home and was forced to reenlist due to a shortage of trained swift boat personnel. Even with the 3 Purple Hearts, his wounds were so minor I can't see how he was sent home with this shortage. I'm sure he was at least approached by a superior officer and asked if he was willing to stay on.

The truth of what happened there will never be totally clear, but I hope this book will at least set the question in place regarding how much of what Kerry says about his service is true.

I was a Navy Seaman in Vietnam for 12 months. I was not on Swiftboats, but I did drive an LCM on the Long Tau the first five months I was there.

My small unit of six men, two officers and four enlisted, were hit with 122mm rockets resulting in the deaths of my OIC LCDR and First Class Bosunmate and the severe wounding of our Third Class Storekeeper.

I sustained cuts and bruises, but never even considered putting in for the Purple Heart.

If Kerry somehow wins this election, I'm petitioning him personally for my Purple Heart, and if awarded such, I'll throw it over the White House Fence. By God, I swear I will!

'UNFIT FOR DUTY(sic) will not be released until August 15.'

This way I can prepare for the event. I don't know whether to go as classy upscale demorat or trailer trash demorat.

When you write a press release you typically either say "for immediate release" or "for release at (time/date)." The contents of the release are under embargo and not to be disclosed (in theory) until the release date and time. Presidential speeches for instance are aften given in advance to the press, which is how every channel has a talking head saying "We expect the President to say ....... in his speech" before it is given, and how the talking heads already have comments right after the speech -- they knew what was going to be said. There is no law about this, just honor. Drudge is threatening to release what he was told before the date and time he was authorized to release it.

"Kerry's reckless behavior convinced his colleagues that he had to go -- becoming the only Swift Boat veteran to serve only four months."

This book will DESTROY Kerry.

Too late.

Kerry destroyed himself last week.

Drudge probably got someone elses copy unless they gave him one knowing he would release early.

Thank you for your service - and if, God help us, Kerry is elected, the service you are then to provide!

'They hired a g*ddamn private investigator to dig up trash!' charged a top Kerry adviser traveling with the senator late Tuesday. 'This is pay for play, and the dirtiest of all dirty tricks ever played on a candidate for the presidency. How low can they go?'...

I dunno.... It could be worse. At least no one is calling him AWOL.

You are probably correct, they wouldn't have given the book to Drudge with the expectation he wouldn't divulge some of its secrets.
