ACTIVISTS PLAN TO DISRUPT GOP CONVENTION
Newsday ^ | 8/3/04

NEW YORK -- Activists plan to hold sit-ins at delegate hotels, take over city intersections, block doors to major corporate offices, confront GOP bigwigs and infiltrate events when Republicans come to town for their political convention.

They say the aim is not to cause harm or even stop the convention from proceeding inside Madison Square Garden from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. They will use what they call creative mischief to call attention to their disgust with the Bush administration.

"It sends that message loud and clear, that people feel so strongly that they are willing to put their freedom and their bodies on the line," said Cindy Rosin, an activist involved with the effort.

While some protest groups have tangled with city officials over permits for marches and rallies, others have been planning acts of nonviolent civil disobedience for months.

They expect to make their debut by swarming Times Square as thousands of Republicans arrive for a glamorous night of Broadway shows on the eve of the convention. A loose council of protesters will call for mass civil disobedience on Aug. 31, the second day of the convention, and activists expect to target GOP events with sit-ins and street theater.

WHAT AN IDIOT - it sends the message to swing voters that you guys are total anti-american -Bush Bashing communist hippy creeps. But go ahead and do it - because you guys are going to lose the Swing Vote BIG TIME and make the people of NYC extremely disgusted and grossed out by you like they were when you guys protested here before.

I remember when protestors were here before and they decided to block traffic by laying in the streets and one NYer decided they needed a bath so they promply poured their cup of coffee on one of them. We all cheered!

To me, it seems this will backfire. Is Teresa Heinz Kerry still bankrolling these guys? The more closely she can be tied to their activities, the more damage they will do to Kerry's campaign.

Not Correct.

It will send the message to The Sheep - by way of the censors of the media - that these are the mainstream majority of Americans, so many different multicultural causes and issues, rising up together, united in their hate of the President, and all good voters must side with the DNC.

No, it sends a message loud and clear that you are willing to infringe on the rights of other people by disrupting their activities. It sends a message that you are a**holes.

Let them do it. Michale Moore is repulsive to look at and that in itself helps to discredit him. When the swing voters see the street scum that will protest, it will do nothing but help the President.

How would these protesters be different in their intent from al-Qaeda? They would differ in degree, in that they probably would not be planting some explosive device, or attempting an assassination attempt. But the goal is the same, to somehow diminish the Bush Administration in their effort to contain and eliminate the threat from al-Qaeda.

For al-Qaeda, they must make a break-out effort very soon, or they face further narrowing of their options. For the protesters, this is but taking advantage of a sometimes ally, in their rabid and unreasoning attack on George Bush.

If al-Qaeda does succeed in their breakout, it will owe in large part to the assist given them (apparently for free) by the protesters. Financed in large part by George Soros and MoveOn.org.

This is not a Communist vs. capitalist thing. It is America against the in-country anti-Americans thing, with them calling on the most anti-American team out there, the Islamofascists.

"Democrats have absolutely no class."

That might be true, but these people aren't necessarily Democrats. They might be even further left than that. You may recall that there were also far left demonstrators at the Dem convention

It didn't work in 68 and it won't work now. It is a sure way for Kerry to lose the election. But I say let them. The one thing that turns off a lot of people are nasty protestors. Peaceful protesting is one thing but nasty protestors who disrupt events and hassle the police no matter how much the media spins it are a BIG turn off, even in Democratic NYC.

I wonder if there will the media blackout of these protesters as there was at the DNC. The amount of coverage will show the bias of media.
