What is it with all the anti-soccer threads and comments lately?

It's a great sport when you understand it (like kockey). But it's a personal taste. I cannot stand watching American football, baseball, golf or fishing shows. It doesn't mean those are awful sports. They're just not for me.

The dangerous thing is when soccer becomes a religion...which it is for many fans in other parts of the world.

"kockey" should be "hockey"

Note to self: try spell-check once in a while...

Agreed, Choose Ye.

I would have to go further, as I'm safely five time zones from any form of retaliation. American Football is like lane swimming. It's duller than basketball.

Remember chaps, "Football" is what the great game is called, not "soccer". And take it from me, we were robbed in Euro 2004. Eng-land! Eng-land!

Oh, it's just an outlet for xenophonbia, nativism, parochialism and plain old chauvinism, all to live up to the Leftists ugly stereotypes of conservatives.

Besides, no sport can catch on in this country in which we can't call every championship "World Series" or something with "world" in it, pretend the world is competing and always win against the world of our imagination! "Super Bowl World Champions!" Yeah, sure!

I soured on watching football when it became aparent that it was nothing but a bunch of money grabbing thugs who seem to be more interested in where to find their drugs than exhibit any kind of American ideals. Baseball is better, but, and perhaps this is just me being a closeminded male, I can't stand watching 9 innings of guys adjusting themselves on national TV.

Christian.

If you prefer to watch a bunch of losers scratch their crotch and spit tobacco, 7 feet tall Amazon monkeys, or 300 lbs Amazon gorillas; just do that. The rest of the world do not identify with the freaks of nature. The rest of the world rather watches a team played by average size people who orchestrate a defense/offense that is breath taking for the people in the know. If you had enough interest and watched a Spanish broadcast of soccer, you would be surprise at the announcer as he is going play, by play for LONG time, and then FINALLY, when the team scores goal, he goes nuts, screaming in ecstasy GOOOOOAAALLLL!!!! That is a multiple orgasm achievement. No time out to interrupt the game because the stupid gorilla needs the teacher (coach) to tell him what to do.

The team practices before the test. And, once on the field, the team plays and adjusts using ITS OWN BRAIN! Brain that is what is missing from football, baseball, basketball!

Ignorant intolerant closed minded Americans are typically the type that disses Soccer. Actually the name is FOOT BALL to the entire world BECAUSE IT IS PLAYED BY THE FOOT, AND IT IS NEVER TOCHED BY THE HANDS! WE have a thing that is not round at all, but looks like a banana, and it is played with the hands and we call it "foot - NOT" "ball - NOT"!

I don't know. Possibly it just goes along with all the well-deserved Euro bashing. Honestly I think soccer is more watchable than American football, but I don't spend a lot of time watching either on TV. If I have a chance to actually PLAY some football, it will be with a round ball and no helmet, that's for sure!

It is dangerous when any sport becomes a religion, or an obsession. In that respect, soccer fans are no different from American football fans.

I dunno. What is it with all the anti-baseball threads and comments that pop up regularly? Many here seem to go nuts for NASCAR, but I just can't see myself sitting in front of the television watching stock cars going around in a circle for three or four hours every Sunday. I am more of a Formula 1 kind of guy. Americans - even FReepers - are not all cut from the same cloth, and what might be interesting to some might be boring to others.

I like baseball and think it is a great sport, but I see many negative comments about baseball, the owners, the players, the lack of excitement in the game. There are those here who predict baseball will shrivel up and die. Millions happen to agree with me though. Look at attendance numbers.

I personally do not find soccer exciting, but that is just me. I do understand the sport but that doesn't help any. To me, it is still a bunch of guys running around on a huge lawn, trying to run to the other side of the field to deposit a ball in a net. WHOOPIE! But if other people love it and it can survive here then I say it is a good thing.

We're just all built and programmed differently. Variety is the spice of life!
