DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 set for October 8, 2005. The second DARPA Grand Challenge, a field test designed to accelerate research and development in autonomous ground vehicles that someday will help save lives on the battlefield, will be held on October 8, 2005.

Alert! Pre-registration for attendance at the DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 Participants Conference closes August 6th. This informational event is for participants, sponsors, and groups looking for others to help complete their teams. The conference will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the Anaheim Marriott, Anaheim, CA, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Walk-in registrants will be accepted as space allows.

Thus fun-loving folks at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency are offering a new contest with a $2 million dollar prize. All you have to do is build a vehicle which can navigate itself to a specific point, avoiding barriers and other traffic along the way.

They did it this year too. The result was not that good. But I bet they learned a LOT.

The best one didn't get far this year, but the problems were not insurmountable. It's robotics, it's our future.
