Now anyone with a Masters in computer sciences or mechanical engineering, a BA in chemistry, A good position in manufacturing, warehousing, etc are all losing their jobs.

And yet the chemistry/physics trade magazines I layout are full of articles decrying the lack of Americans going into these fields. They run contests to pay students' way through school. The hard science programs in our universities are filled with foreigners because not enough American students are interested. Many of the classes are taught by foreigners because there are not enough qualified U.S. professors.

The present economic situation is hardly any different from any other time in our history -- and indeed better than many times. Some jobs are being phased out, but more are being created in other industries. The trick is to go where the jobs are.

americans know these engineering jobs have no future, their parents who are engineers steer their college bound children away from those fields, because they know what is happening to them. I know 100s of people I work with doing exactly this. that's why those programs have to use foreign students to fill the seats.

no american parent is going to spend $100K to educate their kid, to get a job working 60-80 hours per week, competing with offshore labor. why bother, when real estate brokers and stock traders and lawyers are financially much better fields.

This is the fault of the corporations. The workforce doesnt' truts the companies now and won't risk training in engineering , IT, etc because they see what's happening. Incidentally, this is the same thing that the Corporations were saying before this trend happened. It was a lie at that time. And they used it to abuse the H1 and L1 visa programs and replace american workers in the US with immigrants on visa for a pittance.

LIAR. This isn't about phase outs. It has never been about phase outs. This is about you free trade types TAKING AMERICAN JOBS AWAY FROM AMERICANS AND HANDING THEM TO FORIEGNERS TO LINE YOUR OWN POCKETS. And no, we haven't made a policy of doing this in the past because our parents by and large had some ethics. Save your bs lies for the mirror. You ain't passing that crap off here.
