Inside job? I haven't seen this posted here.

BUILDING PLOT AN INSIDE JOB
August 3, 2004 -- Investigators suspect terrorist moles worked at the Citigroup and Prudential buildings to case the skyscrapers as potential targets of car or truck bombs, The Post has learned.

And now federal agents want to comb through employee records of the businesses that operate in the buildings to try to identify the moles, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

The feds suspect that the extraordinarily detailed information about the skyscrapers which was discovered on an al Qaeda computer in Pakistan was compiled by accomplices who had time to study Citigroup's 59-story building at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street and Prudential's building in Newark from the inside, the sources said. (snipped)

Investigators intend to focus on former employees, including vendors and security guards, because whoever collected the information is believed to have since left his or her job, one source said.

Investigators are not absolutely certain there were moles, but they hope that names of ex-employees will turn up on watch lists or other rosters of suspected terrorists.(snipped)

This is disturbing. Is it unusual to have three crashes so close together in this area?

pecking away at their cell phones sending text messages and email from them instead???

Well, that's interesting Indie. I remember a couple of months ago you posted that one of your ME co-workers that used to be fairly friendly had suddenly become cold/distant (am I remembering this correctly?). Does he/she still work there and is the behavior change still in place? Watching their behavior and any changes could be telling.

TO ALL FR LADIES:

In response to Pipers request, here are a few things you ladies can do to protect yourselves from attack. It isnt guaranteed to work, but it is better than nothing. Its gruesome sounding too, but remember, you are fighting for your life, and they are fighting to hurt you. Dont be squeamish. All bets are off in a confrontation like the ones described above.

A few suggestions:

1) Always carry a rat-tail comb, and keep it close at hand. Use it to gouge out an attackers eyes. Dont be squeamish-they wont be, and its better than being dead. The attacker cannot hurt you if they cannot see you.

2) Wind your keys in your fingers, and use them to hit the person in the face around the eyes. If they cant see you, they cant hurt you.

3) A kick to the groin is cliche. Most men expect it to come and shield for it instinctively. Kick for the knees instead, and aim the kick to knock the knee backwards for maximum injury effect. If they cant walk, they cant chase you and hurt you.

4) If you are grabbed from behind, reach down there and grab a handful of groin ( I wont name it, but you know what I am referring to). Twist that thing right off if you have to. Use maximum force and twist your hand while you pull. They cant rape if they cant use it.

5) Drive your heels into their shins as hard as you can while you do the "vending machine pull" on the groin. That will make them involuntarily throw up, hopefully.

6) If they are close enough to grab you, you have the upper hand because you can react before they act ( if you are prepared). If they are two arm lengths away, you do not have the advantage. Always draw them in close to hurt them, and act quickly.

Still no unusual activity in my area (and I am watching for anything).

Prayers of safety out to all. Heading home now. See you wonderful folks tomorrow.

God Bless.

BUILDING PLOT AN INSIDE JOB

By MURRAY WEISS

August 3, 2004 -- Investigators suspect terrorist moles worked at the Citigroup and Prudential buildings to case the skyscrapers as potential targets of car or truck bombs, The Post has learned.
And now federal agents want to comb through employee records of the businesses that operate in the buildings to try to identify the moles, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

The feds suspect that the extraordinarily detailed information about the skyscrapers — which was discovered on an al Qaeda computer in Pakistan — was compiled by accomplices who had time to study Citigroup's 59-story building at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street and Prudential's building in Newark from the inside, the sources said.

Officials who examined the information concluded that the most recent surveillance of the buildings was done in January. There was additional surveillance last year, a law-enforcement source said.

But most of it was done even before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — and goes back to 2000.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday that the terrorists' information was "vulnerability analysis" — which details how well or poorly guarded the targets are — and that there is no indication that it was "tied to any operational plan."

A 30-page terror document indicates plotters spent hours observing the Prudential building — even spending long stretches in a Starbucks across the street — yielding an intimate knowledge of the building's elevators and other details.

The data includes details about security cameras, escape routes and parking.

"In essence, what we were allowed to view was generated by operatives," said Rocco M. Malanga, director of Newark's Office of Homeland Security.

Investigators intend to focus on former employees, including vendors and security guards, because whoever collected the information is believed to have since left his or her job, one source said.

Investigators are not absolutely certain there were moles, but they hope that names of ex-employees will turn up on watch lists or other rosters of suspected terrorists.

The disclosures came amid several other developments in the terrorist alert announced by the federal government on Monday:

* Mayor Bloomberg signaled that the city remained open for business by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, another of the possible terrorist targets.

"New York is not going to be cowed," he said at a Bryant Park press conference. He called yesterday "a normal day in New York City."

* First Lady Laura Bush and her twin daughters showed solidarity with employees at the Citigroup Center by stopping to chat with diners in the building's atrium.

* Increased security at bridges, tunnels and other checkpoints created major traffic jams — and there are indications the headaches aren't going away soon.

* Severe restrictions on truck traffic created problems for restaurants and markets that depend on fresh produce.

* Heightened concern about terrorism led to a jump in the number of suspicious packages reported to police. More than 40 were reported by evening rush hour, compared with the 25 that are typically reported for a full day.
