Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (search) accused President Bush on Sunday of sitting idly over the last two and a half years while intelligence community reforms went nowhere.
Kerry, who appeared on FOX News Sunday, told anchor Chris Wallace that he and running mate John Edwards (search) have been talking about having one chief of intelligence for more than a year. He said Bush has been reactive rather than proactive in his approach to the needed security changes.
"What America wants is leadership that's ahead of the curve, that doesn't have to be told by an independent commission, which they, incidentally, fought to prevent," Kerry said.
"We need somebody who's in charge of this entire intelligence operation," Edwards added. "We need one human being who's responsible for making sure all that information is shared, and one person who can report directly to the president about it."
The commission formed to investigate failures to stop the Sept. 11, 2001 (search), terror attacks released a report last month that called for a major overhaul of U.S. intelligence, including establishing a director of national intelligence, a Cabinet position that would be responsible for coordinating information collected from more than a dozen intelligence units.

If Kerry does not slow down he will run out of things to blame Bush for. Pace yourself my man.
"Kerry: Bush Asleep on Intel Reform"
as Bush continues to reform the intelligence organizations...
Does Kerry think we are THIS stupid???
This comes from the Senator who missed, what, 38 of the 49 Senate Intelligence meetings available to him?
Pretty lame argument since the Absentee senator hasn't been in session, attended any briefings, or actually READ the 9-11 Commission report.
Ah, Miss Kerry. We've got it. It's called the George W. Bush doctrine of preemption.
Hey, there's still, what, 96 days of weather left between now and the election.
"Does Kerry think we are THIS stupid???"
Well, he was addressing a partisan crowd today and yes, they are THIS stupid and more.
I hadn't seen that. Good heavens.
Remember the "KERRY ACT"????
No? Well neither do I. And that's because for all his lip flapping Thurston John F. Kerry Howell III has NEVER EVER done anything in the Unites States Senate. Heck, he's been GONE for a year and IT DID NOT MATTER!!
The only "KERRY ACT" is his acting like he has ever done anything for anyone but himself. Other than that the guy has been absolutely worthless.
Lemme guess: Sandy Bergler.
I believe a lot of Freepers missed it. We need to get the word out. Do you have a ping list?
No, but DoctorZIn certainly does.
Why didn't Kerry Tear Down That WALL?
Bush's every day since Friday have been masterful. But national polls are meaningless. Without Ohio, he can't win, and the Left's 527s are pumping $40 million alone into that state. Tney have thousands on the ground, and are leading there, and also in MI and NV in our polls. They are spending Soros' cash like there's no tomorrow. They have hired hundreds of lawyers in each of 17 states to intimidate polls into allowing fraud. This must be countered, and soon.
LOL. You've got Kerry pegged correctly!
>>Kerry, who appeared on FOX News Sunday, told anchor Chris Wallace that he and running mate John Edwards (search) have been talking about having one chief of intelligence for more than a year. <<
Did anyone else notice that Kerry and Edwards were running against each other then? Did he talk with Dean, Clarke, Kucinich, Sharpton, Gebhart, and Lieberman about this too? This is one more exaggeration designed for the weak minded.
But of course, if he had proposed legislation, like his job requires...oh he would have to go to the Senate and get something passed. Or maybe just show up. Or maybe...
