Kerry's Jump The Shark Moment (What Was The Moment When the John Kerry Campaign Started Flopping?)
Self | August 2, 2004 | PJ-Comix

I believe that, like entertainment, political campaigns have Jump The Shark moments where you can trace the decline of a candidate's chances. For Gerald Ford in 1976, it was when he said Eastern Europe wasn't under Soviet domination. For Richard Nixon in 1960, it was when he showed up at the first debate with JFK without makeup to hide the thick shadow of his beard.

Perhaps the most famous political Jump the Shark moment was in 1988 when Michael Dukakis, in a double digit lead over George Bush, appeared atop a tank wearing a tanker's helmet that made him look like Snoopy. Arguably there were two other possible Jump the Shark moments in the Dukakis campaign. One was his emotionless response to a question about what he would do if his wife were raped. And a much less known Jump the Shark moment was when Dukakis appeared in public while power walking. There is absolutely NO dorkier exercise that power walking. You walk while wildly swinging weights in both hands. The net effect is to make the power walker look like the ultimate nerd.

So what is John Kerry's Jump the Shark moment? It must have already happened since he got a NEGATIVE bounce in the polls coming out of the Democrat convention. Was it when he wore that Sperm Cell outfit at NASA? Or perhaps that wimpy pitch at the Red Sox game where he was later booed? Or was it his overlong convention speech? Please give your ideas on John Kerry's Jump the Shark moment.

Kerry lost this when he was in the primary getting beat by Dean and moved Left forcing him to vote NOT to fund our troops after voting to allow the President to send troops.

If I was a Vietnam Vet who was kinda leaning toward Kerry...

Self-contradictory. I think the few Vietnam vets who are leaning toward kerry are the ones who are campaigning with him.

He's got a lot bigger veteran problem than he could have possibly imagined.

Appearing with Ben Afflicted.

Ben Afflicted is like the political Tourist Guy. He's just seems to be always 'hanging around' in the background.

Anyone else notice that??!

Since no one appears to give you a clear and correct answer, its TV production lingo: That point in a series
that the producers have ran out of fresh ideas, and the audience is ready to flee en masse, so all the stops are
pulled out in order to get that one more season...

Take a look here: http://jumptheshark.com/ for your [formerly] favorite TV series.

My brother is a 46-year-old White Engineer, who grew up in a rich town, has an MBA, lives in a rich town, and has a 7-figure stock portfolio. And he thinks Al Sharpton is Da Man!

So does your brother ever try to get you to see how we all need to "fight the power" and stuff like that? LOL!

Had to be the asinine salute and "reporting for duty" remark.

I'll give you five bucks to keep this under your hat in the future.

You might remind your German friends that Hitler used to dismiss Americans as "cowboys" too.

The JTS moment was when he first uttered the phony words, "This band of brothers."

"Jump the shark" comes from Happy Days, alright, but has nothing to do with motorcycling.
The Fonz jumped over a shark while waterskiing!

Can a lawyer even have a "jump-the-shark" moment?

I think the beginning of the end for the entire Democratic Party '04 was in March with the "These Guys Are the Most Crooked, Lying Group I've Ever Seen" comment. I believe that a lot of people were turned off when he revealed his true colors. I think the Hamster story is his coup de gra (sp), though.

John F. Kerry, the surgeon: "When I became a doctor, I took the Hypocritic Oath to save hamsters as well as my
own presidential prospects. The Oath allows me to give the impression of virtue or sincerity in every expedient
and deceitful position I take in order to be worthy of effusive praise from the press and other Democrats."

As I was waking up, I was thinking of starting a thread on when folks knew that Bush Sr. was toast.

The Jump the Shark moment of Bush I happened the moment he broke his No New Taxes pledge and got suckered by the Democrats into supporting new taxes. A big chunk of the blame also goes to the the budget director of Bush I, a real cretin by the name of Darman who convinced Bush I to cave in to the Democrats.

"My Three Sons" jumped the shark when Robbie and Katie brought the triplets home from the hospital.

Interesting. For Leave It To Beaver it was the moment the Beaver hit puberty. Beaver was a cute kid but as a teenager, he was incredibly CREEPY. When I watch the reruns I get very uncomfortable watching the teenage Beaver.
