Well kinda, yeah. ;-)

I'm actually trying to figure out when/why the terrorism spiked and has continued to grow since 1979. Terrorists always try to blame it on "the Israel thing", but that happened long before 1979, so what was the significance of 1979... anyone know?

(I'm just sooooo tired of seeing every 3rd post mentioning Clinton... ok, that's an exaggeration, but it IS pervasive and unproductive.)

Yes!! That DOES make me happy! Now could you come to my office and convince the 3.5 (out of 7) bleeding hearts???

One of them, who HATES Bush, wasn't even going to watch Kerry's speech at the DNC the other night!! She's one of the "anyone but Bush" crowd. I asked her if she watched, and she said "Yeah, I got sucked in."

Good grief!! I watched Kerry because it's my duty to be an informed voter and know who I'm voting for and why - so even though I am voting for Bush, I had a responsibility to watch Kerry. She wasn't even going to watch!!!!!!!

So I asked her, how do you think he did? She gushed, of course... "I was really really impressed, I thought he had a commanding presence, and he did a really good job."

I said, "Yeah, I thought he did a good job too. I'm not voting for him, but I thought he did a good job. Too bad they stole that "Hope is on the way" mantra from Cheney's inauguration speech in 2000."

She said "Nooooooooo?!?!?"

LOL Yep.

Why let the bad guys know how we know?

To let them know how close we are coming and to stop the attacks that were planned. Make no mistake, we are not giving out any information that will hurt our efforts, but the big guys need to sweat about what else we have.

if you have their email addresses, you know where they are....

perhaps they are dumb and try to report in......if you trace the recipeints DNS number, you could find out pretty quickly where these guys are emailing from, etc.

I think we are going to see roundups soon.

What purpose does it serve to be so specific? Why let the bad guys know how we know?

To see what move they do next?

I wonder how he was persuaded to divulge this useful information?

The thought of being locked up in a room listening to Barry Manilow tapes is absolutely chilling.

ASHINGTON, Aug. 1 - The unannounced capture of a figure from Al Qaeda in Pakistan several weeks ago led the Central Intelligence Agency to the rich lode of information that prompted the terror alert on Sunday, according to senior American officials."

"The figure, Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, was described by a Pakistani intelligence official as a 25-year-old computer engineer, arrested July 13, who had used and helped to operate a secret Qaeda communications system where information was transferred via coded messages.

Tonk can you give me some facts about the fishing vessels having to put survellance cams on their boats as ordered by Homeland Security.

Two vessel owners are ticked because they have to payfor the cams and think if Homeland Security wants them they should foot the bill.

Another smaller boat owner say that the cams are not for terrorists as being specified but to watch the fishermen and their practices, quotas ect. Big Brother.

Then another person said they were meant to assist also with crews that go mad out at sea.

Old time vessel owners are complaining that it is sooo hard now a days to find a crew that is not doing meth. they say in the old days getting the crew back on board due to drinking binges were the worst problems now a days it is druggies.

Can you verify any of these rumors as fact?

I live on the Yaquina Bay in Oregon and I believe you are South of me.

I think the info came from the female evil-doer who crossed the border into Texas a few days ago.

When they communicate, they are vulnerable. Intercepting signals is one of the few intelligence tricks that we Americans are good, no, *exceptional* at doing.

Can you imagine how far ahead we would be if Clinton had put an emphasis on the training of Arabic translators?

I think that was one of the anti-terror suggestions contained in the stolen Millenium report.

Pehaps because it's a simple way of protecting the target. Once AQ knows that we know that they have targeted a certain location, the opperation involves too much risk to justify its continuation. OTOH, just keeping what we know secret in order to catch AQ in the act, involves too much risk for us, because we might, in fact, miss them.

Gee, that reminds me of the words "Oklahoma City" for some reason.

if you have their email addresses, you know where they are....

I would just create a dummy email address; draft an email message at a cyber cafe but don't send it; log off; your partner knows the email address; he logs on at a cyber cafe in Seattle & reads your message from the drafts folder. The account is then never used again.

So, an email address means nothing in terms of locating these operatives.

In a world where the other Clinton wasn't planning to make her move in a few years, I might agree.

demonstrated in extraordinary detail that Qaeda members had for years conducted sophisticated and extensive reconnaissance of the financial institutions cited in the warnings on Sunday.

Why are they here?
