Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Roddy Corr said about 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the ruptured tank, as was some waste water. He said swift currents dispersed the spilled fluid before it could be cleaned up.

There's a certain irony to this that I just have to laugh at.

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.

I think the eco-tourists should pay a per-gallon clean-up cost for their spill similar to whatever Exxon paid per-gallon for the Valdez spill. Does anyone have that figure?

I can just picture the people the boat jumping into the water to try and swallow all of the fuel.

"think the eco-tourists should pay a per-gallon clean-up"
I don't think these were environmentalist wackos... i think they were just people observing the Alaskan environment

I'm sure that they had 'good intentions'. That's all that matters.

Now they can observe it better as it bobs on the surface of the water.

5,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the ruptured tank

These ecowhackos just did more damage to the environment than my SUVs would do in who knows how many thousands of years of operation? Bet they don't stop taking their meaningless little eco-tours through the wilderness, though.

I'm an eco-tourist.
I'll holiday any place where the eco is sunny, and has lots of cute cabana boys! ;-)

Eco Terrorist are destroying private propery in the millions of $$$$ up here in the PNW.

A rash of SUV's and Trucks where vandalized in Portland, Oregon last week by these creeps.

One fellow who had his very nice Ford Rig ruined came on the news to say that he only uses the truck 30days out of the year 1000 miles per year and that he normally drives a enviro-friendly car as his main transportation.

This needs a rewrite -

Eco-terrorists crash boat into innocent otter munching on endangered salmon, spilling 80,000 cups of oil, forever polluting Alaskan, Oregon and Siberian shorelines, threatening millions of sea birds, halibut, fairy shrimp, polar bears, red cedar, eskimoes, dog sled teams, caribou, whales, trilobites and two monkeys at a local zoo answering to the names Jane and John.

I wasn't trying to defend eco-terrorists. I'm just pointing out that these people may not have even been environmentalists. They might just be on an Alaskan wilderness tour or something.

Okay -- you make a good point. It's really only the ship owners who should pay any fine or cleanup cost. I was trying to make a point about the excessive hysteria surrounding the Exxon Valdez spill.

Eco-tourists are allowed to use SUVs, boats and jets to despoil protected areas. Because they do it for the children.

Your right they probably are just tourist. Putting ECO in front of the type of cruise is what can lead to a misunderstanding.

I bet in earlier days the tour would have been called Alaskan Wildlife Tour or Nature tour.

Words have so many different meaning now a days. Kinda gets confusing for us older folks.

We use to call our hetro-friends girlfriends now I hear the term she's my bitch refer to ones girlfriend and girlfriend now refers to a homosexual relationship. Now I know why it drove my family crazy when I used double negatives.
