It is possible that this mayor is an honest man. His wisdom is appreciated.

It is possible that he's a politician and sees which way the wind of this election is blowing....in the direction of victory for President Bush.

I agree with that political assessment. The president has yet to have his convention and the democrat convention was an utter failure....no bounce that's statistically determinable.

The president has yet to spend his pre-convention backlog of money. The president has yet to unleash his best ammunition --- which be wall to wall on the news from September to November.

Kerry's supporters have thrown book title after book title, false witness after false witness, and lie after lie at the president and they have not changed the poll numbers.

Bush/Cheney in November. This mayor sees it.

A very long time ago, at the start of the Cold War a Republican Senator from Michigan, Arthur Vanderberg supported Harry Truman's Marshall Plan and Truman Doctrine. Asked why he would support the policies of a dedicated Democrat like Truman, Vandenberg is said to have commented that partisanship stops at the water's edge.

Republicans still mostly believe that. See Dole and McCain during Bosnia. Democrats appear to have lost interest in anythng but the partisanship that will allow them to Tax Tax Tax, Spend Spend Spend, and Elect, Elect, Elect.
