Here's the linK

St. Paul Mayor Kelly Supports Bush for Re-election

St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly broke Democratic Party ranks on Sunday to announce his support for President Bush's re-election.

"George Bush and I do not agree on a lot of issues," Kelly said in a statement. "But in turbulent times, what the American people need more than anything is continuity of government, even with some imperfect policies."

Kelly, who said he's remaining a Democrat, said the economy is going in the right direction. "There's no reason to believe a change of course will produce better or quicker results," he said.

And the mayor said the United States will bring the troops home from Iraq a lot sooner if "we don't try to bring in a whole new leadership team to run the show. We must stay the course."

Governor Tim Pawlenty, who co-chairs the Bush-Cheney campaign in Minnesota, praised Kelly. "His bold decision is courageous and a welcome move toward working across party lines," Pawlenty said in a statement.

U.S. Senator Norm Coleman, the Bush-Cheney campaign's other co-chair in Minnesota, called Kelly's announcement "bipartisanship at its finest."

"Mayor Kelly recognizes that jobs are being created and that tax cuts have stimulated that job growth. He has done the same for St. Paul," said Coleman, Kelly's predecessor as mayor of Minnesota's capital city.

But the St. Paul DFL Party said Kelly "has traded the values of St. Paul for the agenda of the Republican Party's far right."

"Rather than advocating the needs of St. Paul, Mayor Kelly's decision to not support John Kerry's strategy for building our cities does the voters of St. Paul a disservice," the party said.

Kelly, who was elected mayor in 2001, is up for re-election next year.

More evidence that the Democratic party is nearing an historical, defining split, as has occurred every 30 years or so. Today, you have the Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy liberals and the Zell Miller, Randy Kelly, etc. moderates. The moderates have always pulled ahead in the past, leaving the liberals in the dust.

If this was Atari, the screen would be nearing "game over" for the liberals.

The giant wooden donkeyphant is great...just keep it parked outside the city gates.

LOL! Very astute!

Zell Miller, Edward Koch and now Randy Kelley. The Bush Democrats are starting to come out of the closet.

Yes.

See, the problem is that I typed and hit post before I thought about what I was doing.........which is ALWAYS dangerous on FR.

By the time I realized what I had done, it was too late.

btw, I do like Minnesota, especially when it gets to be 40 below and your nose freezes on the inside. :o)

And seriously, this is SUCH good news to me that the mayor of St. Paul is supporting Bush. With Pawlenty and Coleman, and now this.....I just may move back. :o)

The radical Left (Pelosi/Kennedy) have commandeered the party and promoted their stooge Kerry. The moderate Dims (Miller/Lieberman/Kelly/etc.), having been pushed to the sidelines, are now irritated enough to speak out against the radial Left that has commandeered their party.

The Clinton/McAuliffe faction is hanging in the sidelines, throwing wrenches into Kerry's feeble campaign. They want him to lose, of course, but they want to appear as though they had supported him all along. Bill's sincerity was so convincing I almost believed him! A true master of deceit.

The far Left will be ecstatic right up to the final vote count, in which they will lose by 6-8 points. In November, after the smoke clears, the radicals will lose, the moderates will still be shunted aside, and the Clintons will still be in charge, and planning for 2008.

I believe that former Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat from NYC, is speaking at the Republican convention. He likes what GW is doing in the War on Terror.

His comments are very similar to former NYC Mayor Ed Koch's remarks. Koch says that he disagrees with Bush on 100% of the domestic issues, BUT, the War trumps everything else.
