Sources: Al Qaeda Plotting to Attack New York City Corporations

N E W Y O R K, July 31, 2004? ABC News has learned that federal and New York City officials have received credible intelligence that al Qaeda has been plotting to carry out suicide attacks on corporations based in the city. |

| Sources at several law enforcement agencies tell ABC News that an "overseas source" has provided the information about the threat to New York and that it is more significant than the usual "chatter" intercepted from likely terrorists that has prompted warnings in the past. Officials from dozens of local and federal agencies met into the night Friday and again this morning. "Intelligence reporting indicates that al Qaeda continues to target for attack commercial and financial institutions, as well as international organizations, inside the United States," the New York City Police Department said in a statement released today on the "ongoing al Qaeda threat." "The NYPD recommends that corporate and institutional security directors review their protection of HVAC systems, parking installations, and security in general," the statement added. "The alert level for New York City remains unchanged at 'orange' or 'high.'" Border Worries Intelligence sources say al Qaeda plans to move non-Arab terrorists across the border with Mexico. Authorities already have in custody a woman of Pakistani-origin arrested after crossing into Texas. She carried a South African passport with several of the pages torn out, $7,000 in cash and an airplane ticket to New York. New York is already on heightened alert for the Republican National Convention, which meets at Madison Square Garden in a month and will bring scores of high government officials to town. The sources tell ABC News that Wall Street firms may be among the targeted U.S. corporations based in New York City. Which corporations or how many may be targeted has not been revealed. Suicide Truck Bombings Particularly disturbing to authorities were the intelligence reports that the attack may involve one or more suicide truck bombings, a tactic never seen in the United States, but one widely used by terrorists elsewhere. "I think they want to try and shake our psyche again," says Jerry Hauer, an ABC News consultant and former director of New York City's Office of Emergency Management. "And I think the easy types of attacks right now are car bombs, truck bombs." Law enforcement officials acknowledge such bombs are extremely difficult to prevent. As to the timing of any planned attack, sources say it could take place between now and Election Day in November. As the government tries to verify the reports of the threat, there are no plans to raise the national threat level, a senior Bush administration official tells ABC News. Also the GOP knows buying insurance would be a waste of money, because they can always claim it's the taxpayers' patriotic duty to create a victims fund to provide money for all if anything were to happen.

Arab Terrorists couldn't possibly cause more damage to New York Corporations than John Kerry - if elected - and his "band of brothers" from the VVAW.
We are fortunate that the Muslim Terrorists are quite stupid - they could have learned that a single sniper team held the metro DC area terrorized for weeks, and sent similar teams to every metropolitan area in the USA.

Unfortunately, the bad guys may have been in place for years - WORKING in those places, which means they would have the proper papers/credentials.
I'm reading a book right now about a terrorist who shot a famous Rabbi in New York in 1990. The terrorist had been in the country for nine years before he killed the Rabbi.
There was an extra leg? You mean, when they put all the pieces back together, they had one leg left over?
However I worked there in the Spring of 2003 and then I stopped working there.
I also worked just south of Wall Street ending in 10/01.
What I am describing to you I observed during that time frame.
Comments concerning trucks and people not knowing what was in them that were on or around Wall Street came directly from security people on the ground, and I heard them while on my way to work in the morning and being id'd by guards.
As I am here recording first hand observations, and second hand observations from direct sources who were first hand observors, what I record here is accurate.
You sound like you have more knowledge of search and security procedures than I do. I will give you that. You probably worked closer to the actual possible targets than I did. I will also give you that.
But that doesn't make what I am saying here not the case.
What year did you retire? Were you there post 93? That is around when I started there, post 93.
I worked in One WTC until 1997, and security around that building looked to some degree tight when I worked there. e.g. would have to show guards ID to get to the elevators.
Not only that, but the left leg was dark in skin complexion. There were also reports that the leg was recently shaven. That's apparently why they thought it belonged to a woman -- a black woman named Lakesha Levy. They put the stray leg in her casket and buried her, apparently hoping the issue would go away. A funny thing happened, though. Lakesha Levy's real left leg was later found in the rubble and definitively identified by footprint. So they dug her up and exchanged the legs.
The sticky little problem still remained, though; they still had an extra leg of unknown origin. They didn't know whose dark-skinned, newly shaven leg that was that had originally been buried with Lakesha Levy.

One of these days when I have more time, I'll follow this up to see where the leg was buried and what kind of burial it was given. The maddening irony of the entire thing is this: If that leg did belong to a Middle Eastern male who had recently shaved his body in preparation to meet his 72 virgins, then we ended up giving him (or what was left of him) a nice, humane, dignified (and probably Christian) burial.

It's excellent they caught this woman, it's quite obvious she was up to no good. Should it cause us to secure that border, that will be a good thing. But most of the MuSLIMES that come here do so via Air. And don't forget the Canadian border, that's where the Millenium plotter was crossing.
Can't trust anyone.

Nichols' jurors learn about mystery leg; Severed limb was never matched to any known bombing victim.

McALESTER — Jurors at Terry Nichols' state murder trial learned Friday that a severed left leg never was matched to anyone after the Oklahoma City bombing.
Jurors also learned the gruesome details of how more than 70 of the victims died in the April 19, 1995, attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
"This is not easy," said Dr. Fred Jordan, the state's chief medical examiner, as he described one by one the causes of death.
Jordan conceded under defense questioning that someone else may have been killed because one left leg could not be matched with any of the 168 known bombing fatalities.
"That's possible," Jordan testified. "This is a mystery to which I don't have the answer."
Nichols, 49, contends executed bomber Timothy McVeigh had help from others — not him. His attorneys may suggest during closing arguments the unmatched leg is all that is left of McVeigh's true accomplice.
Jordan testified his "gut feeling" was that medical examiners made a mistake and the leg belonged to a known victim. He told jurors, though, he and other experts studied X-rays and other evidence and couldn't figure out any mistake.
He said anthropologists concluded the shaven left leg likely belonged to a woman of mixed race who was 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall. Prosecutors suggested Friday the leg could have belonged to a homeless person.
Outside the courthouse, Jordan told reporters: "I've always thought this had to be a mistake on our part. ... There were a lot of missing parts. ... But we have looked and looked and looked. Other pathologists have looked. Other anthropologists have looked. And we can't find it. ... Could it be another individual? I have to say, 'Could be. I don't know.' ... I do not know whose leg it is. That's the bottom line."
Leg had been placed in coffin
The mystery leg had been mistakenly placed in the coffin of Tinker Airman 1st Class Lakesha Levy, who was killed while visiting the Social Security office.
Officials discovered the mistake when they identified a left leg found in the rubble on May 30, 1995, as Levy's leg. Officials made that identification from a footprint on Levy's birth records.
The mystery leg was studied after Levy's casket was removed in 1996 from an above-ground crypt in New Orleans.
