Sign of apocalypse? Hello, Sen. Affleck
Boston Herald ^ | 7-30-2004 | Noelle Straub

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Ben Affleck is barnstorming with Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] this week, but perhaps the Bay State senator could return the favor next year.

The movie star told the Herald yesterday he has an interest in politics but deflected questions about whether he would run for the Senate if Kerry leaves an open seat by winning the White House. Saying he's focused on a Kerry victory Nov. 2, Affleck said, ``I'm not thinking past that.''

But the actor obviously has been paying attention to the potential race. He noted that likely candidate U.S. Rep. Martin T. Meehan [related, bio] has raised the most money and has more than $3 million in the bank, and that Rep. Edward Markey had the second largest warchest.

Asked by a TV reporter yesterday whether he had any political aspirations, Affleck said, ``After I've seen the glamour and the glory? Thanks, guys.''

But noting the actor's high profile at the Democratic convention, Kerry said, ``Between the two of us, John Edwards [related, bio] and I, we decided that Ben Affleck had about four hours more TV than we did.''

This kid could definitely be an up and comer. I like him. I listened to his interview on O'Reilly and he presented himself very well. He's not your typical Rat. For example, he's pro-gun. He has some Independent ideas. I think down the road, he'll wise up to the Rat's agenda. He's still young and idealistic in many ways..like most of us were. I wouldn't dismiss him out of hand.

Won't happen.

The guy tried to vote in New York in 2000...but was registered in California. He didn't understand that you can't do that, even months after the election. He didn't even seem to understand that his vote for Gore in either of those states would not have made a difference.

He's an idiot. And, honestly...he can't act, so he'll have a hard time convincing many people he's not. He is surprisingly hated by many people, and will never live down the Jennifer Lopez fiasco. If you doubt that, go read things like the message boards at IMDB.

You give him way too much credit.

O'Reilly is an easy interviewer most of the time.

Read some of his print interviews, even in lib friendly mags like GQ and Esquire. You'll change your mind fast.

He's got a lot to wise up to...but I hope for the best... Unfortunately, if he ever turns right, that'll be the end of his movie career ;)

Ben Affleck quotes:

"The Bush administration has continued to push a dangerous right-wing agenda which has included increasing encroachments on civil liberties, particularly with the questionable and aggressive use of the Patriot Act," Affleck fumed on Tuesday night when he accepted a Spirit of Liberty award from the People for the American Way, a liberal political action group, in L.A.

The actor added that he hates the Republican tax cut. Even if "I save a million bucks," he joked, "the deficit grows like William Bennett's credit line on a one-armed-bandit bender at Bally's."

He's young?

By the time I was his age I had worked on two Reagan campaigns.

He's old enough to reject abject socialism if he so desired; instead, he’s using his celebrity in hopes of electing a traitor.

I too would like to see him elected senator... so I could watch him turn his state into the laughing stock of the nation, in much the same way he's already done with his career.

I saw the same O'R interview and thought he came across as an empty suit and an empty head.

Wait and see.

He didn't even make it through one year of college. He may be nicer than some of them in Hollywood but he certainly isn't brilliant!

He is a typical RAT. The O'Reilly gig was an act. See his speech in Miami on election eve 2000 for Gore to see the venom and vitriol of which Affleck is capable. Alo, I think the "2nd Amendment" schtick is just B.S. he tacked on to seem more centrist.

He's truly a moron. He was registered to vote in New York and tried to cast a ballot in California during the 2000 Election. Yeah, he may be smart, but he's got a lot to learn about "the process". Apparently he got his aspirations from the same mindset as Hillary Clinton. He can claim to be for gun rights, but, is he truly for gun rights? Diane Feinstein demonstrated she's against gun ownership, yet owns several handguns and a conceal weapon permit.

Vaughn is a Republican? I'm wondering because I honestly haven't heard anything about his politics. If that is true then all right. Kick @ss. Glad to see Vince on the good side.

since he's become box office poison, he may have to start looking for another career.

Of course, he'll become a laughing stock in an election once somebody labels him as 'senator gigli'.

I saw the same O'Reilly interview, and I think O'Reilly bought into the BS hook, line, and sinker.

Heh, that's pretty funny. What's even funnier is that I read your reply before the picture loaded, and thought to myself "What the hell??"
