MINNEAPOLIS -- Jay Wiesner has become the Twin Cities' third openly gay pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, defying a denominational policy that is under review.

The policy forbids ordination of candidates in same-sex relationships but allows gay clergy who are committed to celibacy. Lutheran Lesbian & Gay Ministries said Wiesner and his partner of five years, Timothy Anthony, "were formally married" May 1 at Bethany Lutheran Church, where he will be installed on the staff next month.

Minneapolis Synod Bishop Craig Johnson did not attend Wiesner's ordination Sunday.

Bethany's pastor, Steven Benson, said Johnson could impose sanctions ranging from removing Bethany from denominational rolls to ousting Benson, but he doesn't know what, if anything, the bishop might do.

The denomination is scheduled to act on a report covering its sex and clergy policy at next year's national assembly.

I think its time for Christian conservatives, regardless of whatever their individual religious affiliations currently, to join together in a new universal conservative Christian church, based entirely on scripture and divorced from these freakish abberrations.

There are too many differences among the conservative Christians to make this happen, but it is a nice thought.

Come again?

I thought it was pretty simple..but here goes again. The Catholic Church is a hierarchy with the Pope at the top. The Pope has said abortion is a sin. Yet Ted Kennedy still receives communion. Actions speak lounder than words. I think that explains it.

What happents to the attendence of such churches?

It seems to be the only people who support these type of pervert priests are lonely older women who hate their husbands.

What happens to donations?

Do these churches end up closing?

All of you traditional, orthodox Lutherans out there visit www.elcf.net and join the organization that is trying to stem the tide of apostacy within the ELCA.

Old Martin is rolling over in his grave.

I think he rolled over in his grave when they first named a church denomination after him.

Exactly what part of the following scripture do these supposed Christians not understand>

Lev 20:13

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. KJV

Rom 1:26-27

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
KJV

Without denying the validity of the Holy Scriptures in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, it is impossible to be a practicing Christian, let alone, a member of the clergy in good standing, and, simultaneously, a practicing homosexual.

Actually, traditional Protestant denominations, like the ELCA, have been losing members for years. Denominations that retain a faith in Scripture and a fidelity to the faith gain members. I'm talking over a long period of time here.

In Paul Pressler's book A Hill on Which to Die, which details the conservative takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention, he presents a table at the end showing the shocking decline in members of the mainline Protestant denominations from the 1960's to the 1990's, and the correspinding increase of membership of the SBC.
