The power of pink (Kerry's ties mentioned)

Think pink.

If you're picturing ballerina shoes or a flouncy sundress - pretty, girlie, feminine things - then you're way behind the times.

These days, pink is popping up in the most unlikely places. Over hairy chests. Covering bulging biceps. Atop a buzz cut.

_______

"I think it actually shows confidence in your masculinity," said The Apprentice's Kwame Jackson, who more than once this winter was shown across the boardroom table from The Donald wearing a natty pink shirt. "It shows you have like a subtle flair."

Jackson likes the look so much, he's including at least two pink or pink-accented shirts in a line of men's clothing he hopes to launch this fall - a sign that the color isn't just for summer apparel.

In fact, experts say, pink is only going to get hotter - figuratively and literally.

This is the summer of the masculine pink. Rappers, politicians, business types, inner-city boys on the city bus - all dressed in bubble gum, cotton candy, sunset pinks. For them, and other confident men, pink is the new white.

"Pink is just fly," said Kenny McAllister, who studies lifestyle trends at the New York-based marketing company AMPdi. "It's big everywhere. Especially on men."

----------

"The first guys that were wearing it were wearing it to say, 'I'm so confident in my masculinity, and I'm so hard and I'm so gangsta, I can wear pink,'" McAllister said, calling such risk-takers "fly guys."

-----------

Still, some men are reluctant to drink, wear or venture near anything pink, no matter what research says.

"Pink is for sissies and girlie men," said Bill Shermer, operations officer for Blue Goose, a local trawler charter company. As he ate lunch yesterday in a Canton restaurant, clad in a dark blue company shirt, he declared: "Real men don't wear pink."

Pink - it's my new obsession
Pink - it's not even a question,
Pink - on the lips of your lover
(oh)
'Cause Pink is the love you discover

Pink - as the bing on your cherry
Pink - 'cause you are so very
Pink - it's the color of passion
Ah, 'cause today it just goes with the fashion

Pink - it was love at first sight
Yeah, Pink - when I turn out the light
And Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

You could be my flamingo
'Cause pink - it's the new kinda of lingo
Pink - like a deco umbrella
It's kink that you don't ever tell her

Pink - it was love at first sight
And Pink when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

Yeah!

I want to be your lover
I, I wanna wrap you in rubber
And it's pink as the sheets that we lay on
'Cause Pink - it's my favorite crayon

Yeah!

Pink - it was love at first sight
Pink - when I turn out the light
Pink - it's like red but not quite
And I think, everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

Remember the Chevrolet commercial in 1996 about Dale Earnhardt?

"But when (Dale) started, his first car was pink -- and he's never been over it."

"And the fact that I am currently having sex with this man, on camera, in no way reflects badly on my heterosexuality."

(chuckles)...Right is wrong, up is down, pink is white. Actually, maybe it is a pretty good metaphor for a liberal/conservative contrast.

The merits of pink as a color are hard-wired into our brains. It takes liberal brainwashing and pervision like "Kwame" above to change the hard-wiring.

To wit:

Both my daughters were wildly attracted to pink from birth. My son hated it.

The tie is not pink; it's red with "JFK" and "04" on it; it just looks pink.

Ok...this may not be very serious, but c'mon...Pink is now a "cool" color for guys?

Sorry, this is more of that sick, metrosexual, PC, foppish, "Millenuim-Man" bullshyte.

Unless it's a color that the military uses, men shouldn't be wearing it...end of story.

Good photo and the tie is as you say it is. But Kerry is addicted to soft pastel ties and probably wears a pink one of those too.

The world is at war and these goofs want to run the greatest country in the world and what are they doing, wearing pastels and daisies!!! Rush has been playing the Mighty Mouse Theme music for these pink boys today. Maybe someone will have some pictures soon, Pink Mice who look like Kerry and Edwards parading around with daisies in the hair singing about saving the day!
