HAS SANDY BERGER BEEN CLEARED?

Posted on 07/30/2004 3:19:48 AM PDT by itsinthebag

I just heard on the radio news that Sandy Berger has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Apparently the National Archives is saying that all documents have been accounted for. Has anyone else heard this? And no, this should not be posted under humor! I'm serious, I really did hear this on the morning news just now. WMAL 6:30 here in Washington, D.C., the Fred Gandy Show.

I haven't heard a thing and haven't seen anything clear the wires.

However, even if all of the documents were returned, Sandy the Hamburglar wouldn't be cleared of all wrongdoing since he admittedly took documents out of a classified, secure area in violation of Federal law.

It's probably left wing media wishful thinking.

It was strange. I heard a report also. They just said that he did not take any documents that were there when he arrived, he only took his own notes. But, how would they know that? Is the fix in as usual?

I heard it too. As I said the other day, if Berger walks, this country is finished. There is NO HONOR in Washington D.C. any longer.

WLS in Chicago is reporting this also, from the ABC network national news feed.

I thought even hand written notes made when you are examining secret documents can't be removed until submitted for review by Archive inspectors.

If Berger is cleared, then consider this a barometer.
It will be President Kerry in Nov. 2004

With Imus on 570 and C-SPAN Radio I haven't listened to morning WMAL in years. I still miss Harden and Weaver. Who is Fred Gandy, a lib?

Davis still has to follow up on this:

Davis to Investigate Berger Allegations

Washington, Jul 21 -

House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis (R-VA) announced today that the Committee intends to investigate allegations that former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, in preparation for 9-11 Commission hearings, took highly sensitive terrorism documents from a secure reading room at the National Archives.

The Government Reform Committee, which has jurisdiction over the National Archives, is the primary investigative committee in the House of Representatives.

“These allegations are deeply troubling, and it’s our constitutional responsibility to find out what happened and why,” Davis said. “It boggles the mind to imagine how a former national security advisor walked off with this kind of material in his pants, or wherever on his body he carried it. At best, we’re looking at tremendously irresponsible handling of highly classified information – some of which, I understand, has not yet been located.

“At worst, his actions suggest an intentional effort to keep critical information away from the Commission and the American public. We are now left wondering whether the Commission, set to release its report tomorrow, had access to all of the information it needed to fully do its job. The American people’s faith in our review of 9-11, in our war on terror, in our transparency, is literally at stake in this investigation. It is my hope that Mr. Berger cooperates fully with the Justice Department as its investigation proceeds. Meanwhile, as we continue to afford him the presumption of innocence he deserves, we will fulfill our duty to the American people to get to the bottom of this disturbing breach of trust and protocol.”

That's the second cover up this morning and it's not even daylight. Musicians who terrorize planes and top officials stuffing papers in their pants are nothing to concern ourselves with. Move along, nothing to see.

The House? It is run by Democrats like the Senate.

The taking of the documents is the crime. Returning them does not mean he did not take them.

I thought the DOJ was working on it - I wonder who announced that he has been "cleared."

Fred Gandy is a former republican congressman. A former actor too. Use to be on Love Boat. A staunch conservative.

Yeah, Davis is sometimes a RINO but he has to follow through. And, there are many people in his district who have security clearances and know that Berger broke the law. If Berger walks, Davis is going to have a lot of po'd constituents who play by the rules.

If Berger walks, there are many many people who WILL NOT VOTE FOR President Bush.
They will not vote at all out of discouragement.

This thing has all of the ingredients of Watergate and it is potentially more serious. The Watergate break-in happened in June of 72 and there were a couple of lulls before things flared during both Irvin's and Rodeno's hearings. This thing has political legs. It may not really blow until after the election but it ain't going away.

Oh yes, it's Grandy. I didn't realize he had a talk show out of D.C. We haven't heard much from him here in Iowa since his failed attempt to run against the incumbent Republican governor back in '94. He ran pretty moderate as I recall. Glad to hear he's sounding more conservative these days.
