040426-N-4308O-035 Aboard USS Barry (DDG 52) Apr. 26,2004 - USS Barry (DDG 52) fires her forward mounted Mk-45/5" 54 cal. lightweight gun. The guided missile destroyer Barry is currently underway participating in a Sink Exercise (SINKEX) involving the decommissioned dock landing ship Portland (LSD 37). Using decommissioned ships for live-fire operations gives ships' crews the experience of launching operational weapons and honing their war-fighting skills.
