A Northern California man wrongfully deported to Guatemala after seeking asylum in the United States is suing the government for damages, saying the mistake endangered his life.

Victoriano Lorenso Jeronimo of Oakland filed suit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco late Tuesday, seeking millions of dollars and assurances that federal immigration officials will work to prevent similar incidents.

This is typical of the John Edwards mind-set: You have a guy, who came here illegally, did not show up for a hearing, and the INS properly deported him. THEN, a judge hears the case and says his asylum request was valid.

My take is that all he wants is money, and to not have to be a U.S. Citizen.

He's an illegal alien. Deport him again and then decide his case. If it's decided in his favor let him back in, if not he stays the hell out.

He does not have a right to be here.

Another little tidbit about this same story......reported in the www.mecurynews. com

"Jeronimo was first ordered deported in January 2001, after he failed to appear at his asylum hearing. According to court documents, Jeronimo is illiterate and did not understand the hearing notice."

Seems to me if this guy was so interested in his 2001 hearing he would have *found* someone to read & explain this letter to him.

Sheesh.....many illegals beating our system over the *language* barrier, now this guy comes up with an *illiterate* defense.

These "illiterates" don't seem to have any trouble going for the gold, do they?

This guy will likely see little of any settlement. The self-serving pimping immigrant lawyers and pimping immigrant NGO's will soak up the majority of any settlement.

after seeking asylum

Asylum for coming from Guatemala? Much of the asylum seeking has become so far-fetched. Cuba maybe -- but that should be it as far as the Western Hemisphere countries.
