I disagree.
Since 1994 when they took over the Republicans have always been spineless jellyfish in the face of Democrat attacks.
If the Republicans just fought back even a little and call the Rats on their lies instead of just rolling over, it wouldn't matter who the Democrat nominee was Bush would win in a landslide.
For example, Some obscene high number of people still think we are in a recession, That's a failure on Rove & co and all national elected Republicans.

"Good post. When Edwards key line is 'lifted' from a Bush speech, they are really reaching."
Thanks. I look at it this way, at least Edwards didn't attempt to "channel" a dead baby, as he did in one of his more infamous lawsuits.

They've BEEN fabricating for 4 years. The National Guard stuff is all fabrication. The Joe Wilson scandal is a complete fabrication. The notion that Abu Grahib extends to the top level of the Executive Branch is a pure liberal fantasy. We just had a work of pure fiction make $100 million at the box office, whose central point is that Bush is the worst leader since Caligula. Yet Bush has gained ground in the polls and Kerry hasn't. I would expect major GOP salvos after the DNC convention. One reason is, you don't know which John Kerry is going to show up for his acceptance speech. Let the Dems cement a platform, make their best case for Kerry and then blow it apart. But I can certainly understand the concern. I haven't felt confident in a GOP victory since Lee Atwater was alive. Actually, my mood depends on the weather. When "W" is speaking on message, I am very optimistic. If he keeps that tone in the debates, it might be a landslide. So we will see. I appreciate your optimism!

Your perceptions are accurate. I first wrote about the "Torricelli" factor here at The FRee Republic several months ago.
If we hit Kerry too hard, too often, too soon, he would plunge in the polls, and the demoRats would never nominate an obvious loser. Then.....they would look for another candidate in an open convention, during prime time. It would have been magnificent "theater", and America would have been glued to their televisions watching in awe, as democracy takes place in front of their eyes.
Instead, we have been wise just to keep it close, and let Kerry get the nomination. After tonight at 10pm est, the bombs will start to drop. Look out for shock and awe!!
Funny thing though.......Kerry is NOT getting a bounce from the convention In fact he is AREADY going down in the polls.
Perhaps America watched "bobble head" Teraaazzzaaa the other night, and said:
OH MY GOD!!! This women is REALLY creepy, isn't she??

How true, hence the necessity, despite liberal objections, of an RNC Convention, and the Club for Growth.....(grin)

Bush is coming out swinging in August. His job will be to frame the debate. Kerry's speech tonight is said to be devoid of specifics and, in general, thematic. If his is a general appeal to replace Bush, the latter can counter with specific plans and arguments in a positive matter about what he will do for America.
Bush is biding his time. If he has a speech scheduled for tomorrow, you know he has waited to strike until just the right moment.

Chris

Heard the same strategy in 96.
