There may be more than one mystery animal running around Maryland -- there are pictures from a sighting in Harford County.
At the Mathis family's rural home in Joppa, they're used to animals, but not this kind.
"I looked out the window and I saw something drinking out of the water trough," said Lisa Mathis. "It looked like something out of Lord of The Rings."
(snip)
But even with maybe more than one so-called hyote running loose, DNR is going to leave the beast or beasts alone for now.
"We would respond if we knew we had a public safety situation developing," said Peditto. "If we had an animal that was acting in a way that would put people in danger, we would respond immediately."
The only way to find out what the animal is would be to trap it, but DNR says it would only do that if the animal were seen as a threat

This is the follow-up to an earlier story. For the record, I think it is a hyena.
It's a hyena or is that an hyena? I sent the local news station links to pictures from various angles.
It's a Bog. Part bear, part dog...
Maybe an escapee from a zoo?
It is a hyena and is heading north to Hyenasport for a senatorial meal. The senator in question, known as "The Swimmer", is under the protection of Greenpeace..
Hard to tell from the pic....looks like a red fox, but nothing in the photo to see how big it is or the tail.
I think it's just an ugly dog.
Without a size reference it's hard to tell...The reddish colored fur (what's not molted) and the cannine face would lend you to believe it's a red fox with a severe case of Mange.....
It may also be sufferring from other maladay's since the head is hung low and it appears to be dragging it's front legs...
I find it unbelievably cruel for the local county officials not to actively hunt this animal and put it down instead they prefer to let it suffer....

If you said On the Record, I might have thought, Greta. ;-)
Personally, I think it's Hillary.
You must have missed the other 15 threads on this dating back to a couple of months ago.
The mystery animal doesn't look very big. It might take weeks for it to polish off "The Swimmer."
There was a post about a somewhat similar creature thingy running around the Winston-Salem/Greensboro, NC area (?) a couple of months ago.
A red fox with mange...not Redd Foxx!
