"Not in Iowa, shotgun only, no rifles. At least when the DNR boys are around."
Is this for real? What's the logic behind this assinine rule? Shotgun for deer? What is the alleged downside of a rifle?
It's for real. A 30.06 has a long flight path, and there isn't much in Iowa to slow them down. Shotgun slugs don't travel near as far.
shotgun slugs travel way less than a rifle bullet...in crowded states, the goobermint doesnt want a stray rifle bullet plowing through somones living room 1 mile down range....
The Capt.
Not all terrain is hardwood bottom where you can see in any direction for 100 yards or more. Here on the coast of NC, the woods are so thick that a rabbit has a tough time getting through them.
A 12 ga. with 00 buck has put many a tenderloin in the freezer around here!
Get out much? Millions of hunter use shotgun slug rounds in states that do not permit hunting with a rifle or carbine like a 30'06 or a 30-30; due to projectile delivery limitations. Go to Winchester, Remington, Hornady or Speer, and do a search on "slugs."
