OKLAHOMA CITY -- Former three-term congressman Tom Coburn won the Republican nomination yesterday for the seat of Senator Don Nickles. Nickles, a Republican, is retiring after 24 years in the Senate..

Coburn trounced former Oklahoma City mayor Kirk Humphreys after a bruising and expensive three-candidate race marked by allegations of backstabbing and shady land deals.

Coburn will meet Democratic Representative Brad Carson in November in a race that could play a big role in who controls the Senate.

Are the RINOs in Okla. going to take their marbles and stay home like they do in some other states (New Jersey comes to mind) when conservatives win primaries?

Oklahoma is one of the most conservative states in the country, at least when it comes to national elections. The only time a Dem can get elected to the Federal govt is when he successfully convinces enough people he is a conservative Democrat. Carson did that before, but last night he acknowledged that there are stark differences between he and Coburn, and everyone knows Coburn is very conservative, so reading between the lines he admitted he is a lefty. They both said they are going to run on their voting records, and Carson's votes are all lefty.

Ironically, the congressional district that Carson currently represents was the same one Coburn had held previously. It is widely considered the most liberal district in Oklahoma, yet they loved Coburn. If he can get quite a few votes out of that district, he will win going away.

Leave it to the Boston Globe to throw in allegations and not make it clear to whom they were referring.

no kidding. Humphreys made the comment last night that he felt he was running between Jack the Ripper(Anthony) and the apostle Paul (Coburn) :^D Coburn is keeping his message positive!

What was the final vote count, do you know? Last I heard Carson had over a quarter million votes. What was the total number of votes for Coburn and Humphreys?

We were surprised to get a postcard from the Democrat party stating that Carson is the NRA choice. Surely this can't be true? In any event, we won't vote for a 'Rat. Does anyone have more information on this?

from the Daily OK:

Carson had 280,019 votes or 79.3 percent with 2,250 of 2,250 precincts reporting, the state Election Board said late Tuesday...

On the Republican side, Tom Coburn had 145,963 votes or 61.2 percent with 2,250 precincts reporting in the senate race...

So it looks like 353K voted in the Dem primary, and 238K voted in the Rep primary, if I got my math right.

Do you have the Oklahoma ping list? I would be interested in some analysis and commentary from my fellow okies.

The next question you may want to ask is:

Are all the conservatives gonna take their marbles like they do in some other states (Kansas comes to mind) when mainstream Republicans win primaries?

he is a member of the NRA, but I find it hard to believe he is their choice over Coburn.

Um...The RINO's have held the Kansas GOP captive for too long. Nevertheless, it is the RINO's who got Sebelius in.

We are the mainstream. And we don't need more corrupt RINOs destroying the party like they did in Ill. and Kan.

You know, Gov. Graves is the only reason Denny Moore still holds that KC seat. He tried to draw it so that no conservative could get elected there.

We're better off if the RINOs leave.
