WILKES-BARRE TWP. - Former Luzerne County Human Resources Director Kimberli Weiland, also known as Kimberli Aboyade, recently pleaded no contest to a charge of stealing items from the Wal-Mart SuperCenter. As part of the plea to a charge of retail theft, she paid $227 in fines and court costs, according to paperwork filed in the office of District Justice Michael Dotzel.
She was accused in May of stealing three boxes of sweetener, lettuce, a gift bag and stickers valued at $15.71.
Weiland was hired by the county earlier this year at a salary of $65,000 to help create personnel policies for the county. She was fired in June shortly after county officials confirmed a Times Leader investigation that uncovered criminal charges against her in Ohio and Indiana.
The investigation also showed she was disbarred by the South Carolina State Supreme Court for altering her law school transcripts.
County officials have said a screening committee investigated Weiland's background prior to her hiring, including criminal checks in five states, but failed to uncover the charges or disbarment.
It was unclear Tuesday if information on Weiland's no contest plea would be easily found in future background checks because of the low-level nature of the charge.
Weiland also recently resolved the Ohio case, which stems from a bizarre incident in March at a McDonald's in Wadsworth, Ohio. There, she was charged with obstructing a police investigation.
Earlier this month, the charge was reduced to disorderly conduct and Weiland agreed to forfeit a $224 bond, according to a clerk in Wadsworth Municipal Court. The clerk described the move as similar to a no-contest plea.
Weiland could not be reached Tuesday evening for comment.
Weiland, who was arrested under the Aboyade name, still faces charges locally after allegedly stealing $112 in merchandise from Target in Wilkes-Barre Township on June 17. According to court papers, Weiland tried to leave the store without paying for several items, including bras and a Pooh Bear baby blanket.
A clerk in Dotzel's office said those charges have not yet been resolved.
Weiland also was charged in January with shoplifting at Kroger's grocery store in Terre Haute, Ind. A warrant was issued for her arrest in April for failing to appear for a court hearing on the charge, according to court papers.
The status of that case could not be determined Tuesday.

I gotta believe this person has deep confusion over sexuality. This may be what is causing all of the bizarre behavior. There is more to this story than meets the eye.
Note my careful avoidance of personal pronouns in the above...
This person has deep confusion over species orientation.
I knew Kim from 1994-1998, when she had her life together. I can’t see this picture, but she was absolutely beautiful when I knew her. It’s such a shame that she lost control; she really was a wonderful person.
