I honestly don't see Dr. Rice in elective office. She's never expressed any interest in it and, to be perfectly frank, why would she ever want to put herself through that process? I think she'll be Secretary of State in a second Bush term, followed by a academic career and service as a senior advisor on foreign affairs for future GOP administrations. That'll give her the opportunity to influence matters and leave her print on history, without anyting more annoying than a Senate confirmation hearing. And preserve as much of her privacy as possible.
You could be right. And it is very rare for someone (other than war hero generals like Ike) to be elected President without previously having served in some other elective office.
