This FReep started out for ME with a call on my cell phone from Andrea (with the Riverside College Republicans) at about 4 pm.I was stuck in traffic on the 91 freeway, as it turns out, still about an hour away. She said that there were already over FIFTY Bush-Cheney supporters in place, but that the TEN or so "bad guys" were attempting to disrupt their rally, and she wanted to know what to do.This was her first FReep as an ORGANIZER, and she was concerned.(to be continued...)
any idea why the leftists showed up in strength so late?Primarily, because they are lazy, undisciplined and irresponsible... :o)
...but also because they (and I) thought that since the fundraiser was scheduled for 6 pm to 8 pm, 5 pm would be a good start time - that would enable those of us with a life, family and/or job to attend more easily.See also, from THEIR "pre-FReep" announcement, at www.rapja.org:
Fortunately, our good FRiend Steve F. was prepared for an EARLIER arrival, and the subsequently earlier media opportunity.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Steve Schuh (909) 653-0743
E-mail: RiversideAction@yahoo.comWHAT: MASSIVE PROTEST
WHEN: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 @ 5:00 P.M.
WHERE: The Mission Inn (3649 Mission Inn Ave, Riverside)
assemble @ corner of Orange & Mission Inn Ave
WHO: People dissatisfied with Cheney's & Jones' political policies.Riverside Area Peace & Justice Action (RAPJA) has called for a "massive rally and protest" of Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to Riverside, CA to attend a fund-raiser for Republican Bill Jones. RAPJA is part of a "Coalition of the Sane" which decries the Bush/Cheney policies of "lies, wars, and corporate ties" that have so damaged the United States. The rally will be held at the corner of Orange and Mission Inn Ave and in front of the Riverside City Library (3581 Mission Inn Ave).
RAPJA is expecting a large and noisy demonstration as people from Santa Barbara to San Diego (according to RPD Detective Frank Patino) plan to attend. "We could easily see over one thousand people - more than attended the October 15th rally for Bush," says RAPJA member Steve Schuh. Groups as diverse as the Democrats of Greater Riverside, Green Party, Latinos Against War, Fellowship Of Reconciliation, Peace and Freedom Party, RAPJA, National Alliance for Human Rights, Women in Black, Code Pink, A.N.S.W.E.R.-LA, and Death Penalty Focus are helping to plan the event.
The rally will feature a number of speakers including: well-known Riverside writer Jean Denny; Steven Sterns, Democrat of Riverside; Riverside poet Phil Courtney; Jeremiah Akin speaking about Bill Jones and electronic voting; and others to be announced. The theme of the speakers will focus on Bill Jones' and Dick Cheney's record on California, U.S., and international issues.
In addition, many of the participating organizations will have tables with literature, campaign materials, buttons, and bumper stickers.
And, we had our "secret weapon" on scene - Andrea from Riverside, and the College Republicans.
Protesters to Greet Cheney in RiversideSounds like they are using a little "Million Mom March" math. :o)
By Matthew Lopas, Times Staff WriterLocal protesters are revving up for a demonstration outside Vice President Dick Cheney's fundraising dinner in Riverside on Tuesday, but authorities are not expecting a major disruption...-- snip --
Members of the Riverside Area Peace & Justice Action organization said they hope to re-create the commotion that 350 to 500 demonstrators made when President Bush spoke at the Riverside Convention Center in October.
Organizer Dick Morris said that the antiwar group has seen more cooperation from other organizations, including local Democrats and Latino groups and is confident of drawing larger crowds. However, he said that with hot weather forecasted, planners are unsure how many to expect...
Too bad he din't get a face full of these.
Good of you, Rondog..to post this.
Brings back memories of Riverside....We lived right near there, and have had lunch many times at the Mission Inn.
FRegards,
Congrats, on your Freep.........And welcome to FR.
I was also there yesterday with my mom, 10yr old daughter, and a few friends.
It was sooo hate filled and scary... my mom and daughter went to McDonald's to wait it out. They pushed us, yelled in our faces, and even poured water on my mom. I am sooo disappointed with the lack of support we got from the Police. When one woman who kept screaming in my face and pushed me hard and leaned on me, the Policeman standing literally in front of her said "What do you want me to do?" I said "Arrest her for assault." He said "I can't" and told me I should leave.
Maybe you say, "I want to file on her" next time. It says YOU want to press charges.
We are a part of Citizens for Homeland Defense... and gather every Fri and Sun. To counter the "Bad Guys".
Fri. Corner of Laural Cyn and Ventura (Studio City)
Sun. Corner of Topanga and Victory (Wooodland Hills)
Report this to the police chief. You might not have a name or badge number for the officer, but insist on making a verbal complaint nonetheless. It will go in their mental file.
I hope some of our people were shouting back.
Now, I think it might be too late... but will call tomorrow.
Thanx.
I hope when Vice President Cheney is next in LA that we will somehow be able to meet him. I love him.
