Heinz Kerry Defends 'Shove'
CBS News ^ | July 27, 2004 | Dan Rather

(CBS) While there are few surprises at political conventions anymore -- you can still count on Teresa Heinz Kerry to say what's on her mind.

The woman who could become first lady made headlines the other day giving a piece of her mind to an opposition journalist.

Amid the convention noise and hoopla, CBS News Anchor Dan Rather asked her about that, and what she'll say about her husband in her speech at the Democratic convention tonight.

Like every speaker at the convention, Teresa Heinz Kerry will try to paint a picture of her husband that will draw supporters.

Heinz Kerry: I want them to know that he is a man who believes in public service and he is also passionate about justice and fairness and he's an optimist.

Rather: We look out on this great hall, and two days from now they'll be nominating your husband officially, formally for president of the United States. What do you think when you look out here and you see it, hear it?

Heinz Kerry: It's very hard for me to think that it's my husband and it's very hard for me to think it's me. I've been to a few conventions over time and always find them very overpowering and a little scary.

But unlike all the other speakers, she must define herself as well as the candidate, and those who have been first lady -- like Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton -- say she won't have an easy time of it.

"Being first lady was an extraordinary privilege, but it's not a job. It doesn't have a job description, and in many ways it's a daily challenge because the expectations are both very high, but also limited because you're not supposed to do too much. But you're supposed to do enough and trying to figure out what that means is not easy. It's a very difficult challenge," Clinton told Rather in a previous interview.

Teresa Heinz Kerry is rising to that challenge in her own way. When she confronted a writer from a Pennsylvania newspaper Sunday night, telling him he printed untrue things and that he could, "shove it," she says she was defending her honor.

Heinz Kerry: You know, I defended my rights. I defended my freedom and personally I defended my integrity, and I think any American would do that. And I would certainly applaud them for doing that and find them very weak if they didn't.

Rather: Anybody who's been married for any length of time knows when you get in this situation either you call your husband and tell him, 'I've got some not very good news,' or he calls you and says, 'What's going on?' Which way was it with the two of you?

Heinz Kerry: No, I told him (last night) at the ballgame and he said good for you. That's exactly what he said, "Good for you."

From the podium tonight, Teresa Heinz Kerry says she plans to be conversational and personal about her own life and values and why she believes you should stand up for what you believe.

Women of privilege don't believe they have to make any effort at all to adhere to convention.

And none dare to call them on their despicable behaviour.

Let's just hope some of the female democrats out there do some comparing of previous first ladies(excluding Hitlery, of course) and realize that this woman has NO class whatsoever. If they're honest with themselves about it(which dimocrats seem to have difficulty with), then perhaps they may realize that neither she nor her husband has any class.

It is my opinion that neither Kerry or his wife are traveling on all cylinders. But that appears to be the case with a bunch of the Democrook leaders. Their party has become the party of the mentally unbalanced

Dems and honor? Hard to imagine a group of people more intellectually dishonest.

I have to wonder if they are as dishonest with themselves as they are with other people. Whether they even have the capacity to be honest once in a while. You know, if I somehow woke up one day and realized I thought like a dimocrat, suicide would be a possibile solution.

You know, I defended my rights.

No, lady, you lied. You said you did not say, "un-American." That's not true, and you are documented on tape as saying it.

Classic example of the lib lies. And Rather refuses to expose her. What a crock. He's a horse's *ss.

From the podium tonight, Teresa Heinz Kerry says she plans to be conversational and personal about her own life and values..."Before her presentation I was wondering why she had been invited to speak, and I'm still wondering", "unusual", "bizarre", self-indulgent"...are a few of the kinder remarks about her speech from the Foz News analysts - LOL.........

I found her speach boring and nonsensical. I also found it disturbing because she wants to be the wife of a president, when clearly, she is very unstable.

I remember how upset she was when Kerry remained in Puerto Rico on a fundraising mission after she was mugged at gunpoint in D.C.

Now I am wondering why she was out there alone with her two sons from her previous marriage while he was again out fundraising.

Their marriage reminds me a lot of another political marriage not to be mentioned.

And her lambasting Kennedy for staying in a marriage to hang onto the Catholic vote is ironic given her darling John's comments regarding being against abortion and believing life begins at conception.......could that be construed as pandering to the catholic voter?

Y'know, maybe Rather's right in soft-pedaling this incident. Maybe whenever a journalist writes untrue things about us, we should be like THK, and defend our honor by telling them to "shove it."

So, let's get started. Who's got Rather's email addy?

... she is very unstable...that's putting it mildly - it was laughable when she tried to make light of the "shove it" problem at the beginning of her speech by announcing that she was sure people knew that she had something to say - yet when she was asked to explain her "un-American" comment by a reporter, she denied ever having said it - she apparently thinks she has a lot to say, but when challenged doesn't have the courage of her convictions.......

I will never forget the vicious personal attacks on John Ashcroft during his confirmation hearings.

Hard to believe we have come to this point and this was LONG before we went to Iraq, which the dems use as their excuse for all their hate rhetoric.

an opposition journalist.

Interesting choice of words. That is about as close as they can get to admiting that the Press is biased, and defining which side they are on.

By the way, here is a recent post on more of the 'rat Party/Catholic vote incongruities, in case you missed it......

The dems had a plan to steal Florida......with LIEberman's complicity. They thought they could win by disqualifying the military vote. They were so sure of themselves they feel cheated even tho they were the cheaters.......

This is insanity which they then exploited to the ignorant.
