A leading critic of the Hiawatha light-rail line claims the Minnesota Department of Transportation has known for years that the trains could cause traffic tie-ups along nearby Hiawatha Avenue.
Rep. Phil Krinkie, R-Shoreview, contends that e-mail and other documents demonstrate that MnDOT staff knew a decision to operate the 12-mile line so its trains take precedence over local traffic would cause long delays on cross streets.

A train story and willie green didn't post it?
That's right, he only posts stories that make choo choos look good.
Willie doesn't do light rail, only high speed and maglev.
I've only been on Hiawatha a few times. So some info from a local would be helpful.
But it seems that even Hiawatha, which runs parallel to the light rail and shouldn't be affected, has really slowed down.
The conspiracy theory is that MnDOT purposefully un-sequenced the lights on Hiawatha so that the trains look faster. Your sitting at a red light and see the train cruise by.
one of the favorite arguements for the choo choo was that
it would reduce congestion. never figured out how'd that be
when less than 1% of current commuters would be riding the
choo choo.In addition, it comes nowhere near funding itself via rider fees.Top it off with the fact it goes from Mall of America to downtown -located where it's least useful
to most commuters. Gotta love Phil Krinkie's nickname from the dems- "Dr. No" becausec he always says no to raising taxes for dumb crap like this. Thank God he's my state rep.
