TOMS RIVER, N.J. -- Authorities said Tuesday that they have found a body they believe is that of a 16-year-old Ocean County girl who disappeared more than two weeks ago.

Brittney GregoryBrittney Gregory, of Brick Township, was last heard from on July 11. Authorities started searching for her one week later after they charged a family acquaintance with her murder. There is no word on a possible motive.

Police have not yet announced where the body was found. Previous searches of acres of woods in Lakewood, Howell and Brick yielded nothing.

Ocean County prosecutors have scheduled a 3 p.m. news conference in Toms River.

Gregory's mother told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Gregory recently helped suspect Jack Fuller when he apparently overdosed on drugs. She and Fuller's daughter helped him when he was driven to his house in a taxi a few months ago and called for an ambulance.

I'm glad they found her.

I wish NJ had a working death penalty.

Talk about convoluted reporting. Journalism schools spend too much time teaching political activism and too little time teaching writing skills.

"I wish NJ had a working death penalty."

Maybe for this piece of human garbage NJ will make an exception. A child murdering, drug addicted, white man, he should be fully eligible for the death penalty. Btw, what happened to the sleaze Timendequas (sp?) the reason for "Megan's law"? Is he just lolling about some psych ward, doing hard time, or waiting for the reaper on death row? I don't think he's on death row, but if he is, Murder, Inc. should re-locate here, if we can't execute these people we may as well declare open season on our children.

The only problem is that a state as corrupt as New Jersey has no business putting anyone in jail, let alone executing them.

If the state can't or won't dispense justice on behalf of it's citizens, then it's up to the citizens to make sure justice is served.

I would use the term "citizens" very loosely when describing most of the people who live in New Jersey.

There's a reason Al Gore won this state by 16 points in 2000.

Timmendequas was sentenced to death by the jury. He was sentenced by the Judge to be executed August 1st of this year. And of course, it will never happen.

I found this excert at crimelibrary.com

I enjoyed reading the reference to Mudman.

It’s been nearly five years since Timmendequas was sentenced to death. He remains on death row -- the Capital Sentencing Unit at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, less than a dozen miles from the place where he killed Megan Kanka. He spends most of each day in an 8-by-10 foot cell, listening to the dull drone of  the dozen or so television sets that echo down the two-story cellblock that is Death Row. Every now and then, he gets to stretch his legs in the “cage,” a 12-square-foot chain-link box where the inmates exercise or play chess.

Most days are filled with mind-numbing boredom. But there are the occasional moments of excitement. A few years back, he had a scrape with a fellow inmate, Robert “Mudman” Simon, a hulking biker and convicted cop killer. Timmendequas claimed that the biker was intimidating him. After that, Timmendequas kept even more to himself, prison officials have said. In 1999, Simon was killed. Not by the state. Ambrose Harris, another death-row inmate, stomped him to death in the cage.

In August 1999, the state Supreme Court upheld Timmendequas’ death sentence.  But in New Jersey, the wheels of justice grind exceedingly slow. Although the state’s capital punishment law is nearly 20 years old, not a single inmate has taken that long walk to the prison basement, to a room outfitted with a cross-shaped metal table, to die by lethal injection.

There’s no telling when Timmendequas’ sentence will be carried out, authorities say.

Thank you for the update. I'll admit to being surprised. It's probably "winding its way through the appeals process" since there's been no news about it.

Or hey! Maybe he's decided to just go with quiet dignity to his well deserved fate. But I doubt it.
