I've been agnostic on the topic of vanities because of my own Publius Essays that I post a few times a year. I take the time to work on my facts and prose style before I post. In that sense I'm guilty of posting vanities.
But the proliferation of one-line vanities is destroying this site. Most of the stuff should be a reply or comment to an existing thread, and the waste of bandwidth is starting to turn us into a conservative copy of DU.
It's time for the moderators and Jim Robinson to get together, crack down on vanity posts and come up with a policy where well-written essays will survive the cut, but most of the junk that's being posted will be deleted by a moderator as soon as it shows up.
Just my two pennies.

Part of the problem as I see it, and no I don't have the answer either, is that there is way too much cross over between the forums. There is a religious catagory under news and a religious forum. You have a catagory for politics but a political forum. You have a editorial catagory and a blog forum. Hmmm where to post things. The confusion and differing opinions are going to keep the mods busy. Things need to be simplified. Easier on the posters and easier on the mods.
Just my two cents.

Well said.
Particularly troublesome are certain Freepers who post one-paragraph (or less) vanities but insist on using three stars on each end of the title.
