BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The Egyptian government paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to secure the release of an Egyptian diplomat who had been kidnapped by Iraqi insurgents last week, sources in Baghdad told CNN Tuesday.
Egyptian officials deny paying any ransom for Momdoh Kotb, the country's third-ranking diplomat in Iraq.
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Cairo told CNN the release took place "under the umbrella of good relations between brotherly people."

If Egypt has enough money to pay terrorists, they have enough money to not need a billion dollars a year of my/our money.
IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbour and to say:
We invaded you last nightwe are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.
And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That youve only to pay em the Dane-geld
And then youll get rid of the Dane!
It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:
Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.
And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But weve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.
It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to says:
We never pay any one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost,
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!

Kidnapping and extortion. The roots of Islam. It is, after all, how Mohammed financed his little band in the beginning.
Not to Worry, if Kerry is elected, we will probably see a tax that will be used to pay for the release of hostages and a cabinet position headed by John Edwards for Homeland Legal Negotiation Funds.
It's scary Kerry as far as I'm concerned on defending our Country. Wonder if those swift boat brothers want this guy protecting their kids and grandkids?
Praying that W wins and wins big!
Yep. You hit it right on the head. Now that these weenies have seen that they can get their way by kidnapping non-combatants, it will be open season. Once you bend to terrorists, they will go even harder.
Geezz... These terrorists keep winning. Countries either accepting demands and pulling all it's folks out of Iraq, or paying ransoms are just giving the terrorists more victories. Expect kidnappings to continue to escalate.
Good grief....!
Thank you!!
I've always liked that poem.
Thank you for posting it.
I've always enjoyed Kipling.
