DALLAS -- A Muslim charity that was shut down after federal authorities accused it of being a financial arm of terrorists faces charges of conspiracy, dealing with terrorists and money laundering, according to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday.
The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, its executive director, its chairman and five other men were named in the 42-count indictment.
Attorney General John Ashcroft and senior FBI officials planned a news conference later Tuesday in Washington to discuss details of the indictment.
Holy Land, which claims to be the largest U.S. Muslim charity, has been shut down since about $4 million of its assets were frozen by the U.S. government in late 2001. Federal courts have repeatedly rejected Holy Land's appeals to get its assets unfrozen, concluding that the government has sufficient evidence linking the charity to terrorism.
The charity has insisted that its money went only for relief to refugees, orphans and disaster victims. In 2000, it raised about $13 million for what charity officials said were schools and social programs in Palestinian-controlled areas and other mainly Islamic nations.
The indictment charges that Holy Land provided financial aid to the militant group Hamas as far back as 1988. It charges that Holy Land was deeply involved with a group of Muslim organizations that raised money for the "Islamic fundamentalist agenda espoused by Hamas."
The indictment claims that one of Holy Land's "primary purposes" was to subsidize Hamas' recruitment efforts in the West Bank and Gaza.

A Kerry DOJ will be softer on terrorists, domestic criminals, and enforcing almost all laws. The PC mindset at the DOJ is probably a combo of lifers left over from the Clintoon era combined with the general publicity seeking tendencies of those to go after easy cases that will get them plenty of air-time, such as Martha but proceed with caution on cases that may cast themselves in a bad light, such as appearing to not be properly PC.
As an aside, Martha did not commit insider trading, she committed obstruction of justice which is well settled in the law as a crime and she will serve the time she deserves, unlike Clinton who was equally guilty of the same offense.

Holy Land Foundation has been protected by the clinton administration for many years. If I am not mistaken, one of their attornies is none other than Vernon Jordan.

I was listening to Ashcroft and that name Elashi jumped out.....may be the same one who used to be associated with CAIR.

Whenever there is a prolonged conflict, someone has to be paying for all the bombs, guns, and bullets. I always figured that there must be Americans funding all sides in the Yugoslav wars.
