OMG - what site did you send us to?!? I'd just finished eating lunch and seem to be having a hard time keeping it down now.

"We have some planes" was truly chilling - like a mystery novel

True. Interestingly, this 1 chapter entirely disproves all of the crackpot theories about what happened that morning. Also, it entirely destroyes the assertions by Mikey Moore(on) in F' 9/11.

The famed "7 minutes" and the allusion that "the President already had information on the Pentagon plane (Flight 77) and could have/should have stopped it, but did nothing" is utterly destroyed by the facts.

The lessons of 9/11, however, have been learned to a great extent. I would note that, to one degree or another, the Bush administration has remedied many of the lapses that existed on that day. Many of the sugesstions of the panel are similar, if not identical, to actions that have already been taken or are currently in the works.

For instance, every commercial pilot understands that if the transponder on their plane is malfunctioning, THE PILOT will be notifying the air traffic controller, as opposed to leaving that up to the ATC. The pilots know that their plane will get lit up like a friggin' X-mas tree by scrambled planes.

We also should acknowledge the "spontaneous" remedies now in place. 1) A pilot isn't going to let anyone in the cockpit, regardless of whether they kill or threaten to kill a flight attendant. They know the potential consequence of rendering control of the aircraft. 2) The pilot is likely to take evasive manuevuers (e.g., a snap roll), which will make getting to the flight deck near impossible; something that they wouldn't have likely done before 9/11. 3) There isn't a chance that if the stuff "hits the fan", the terrorists are going to get into the flight deck anyway. The passengers, in numbers, will fight the terrorists. (I would note that this lesson was learned within the first hour of the second impact to the WTC; the heroes on Flight 93 show that they knew their fate and they acted. I am sure that passengers will rise up just the same, as they will already know (or believe to know) their fate).

However, we must continue to be viligent to other types of attack (something the President has been saying since 9/11). We can't think that we have solved the terrorist threat (something the President has been saying since 9/11). We can't NOT be involved and sit by the sidelines (again, something the President has been saying since 9/11).

The real problem with the perceptions about what has changed since 9/11 isn't that stuff has changed (and changed for the better), but it is that the leftists and media aren't really listening. The leftists and the media consider the progress that we have made to be an intrusion on civil liberties. The leftists and the media harp more about the inconvenience of flying than the (even marginal) improvements in airline safety. The leftists and the media are more concerned with the style of politics, rather than the substance.

Which, I suppose, gets back to dead's point about the leftists and the meida mischaracterizing an accurate assessment of the readability of the 9/11 report.

I guess that is just another reason why I think that the leftists need mental health.

I've been to DU a few times. They are a pathetic lot.

This link you saw, for example. Let's compare our site to theirs. On our site we have several posters who have read or are in the process of reading the 9/11 report. There wasn't one poster over there that appears to have looked at it.

Laughably enough, there were several calls over there to quiz GWB on the book's contents. I say with 100% confidence that President Bush could easily field questions on the report.

I would bet that it is their boy, Kerry, that would not be able to answer questions in any meaningful or in-depth fashion. I'll bet he hasn't read any of it. Yes, I'm sure he has been briefed on soundbite bits--today he's out and about saying he would have acted on the reforms the commission suggested in the report. I won't hold my breath waiting for an enterprising reporter to ask him "Like what?".

I'm sure you're right that we learned some valuable lessons from September 11. I suspect the notification of NORAD, the protocols for calling in fighters, and numerous other contingencies have been improved or implemented as well.

Our enemies will use differing tactics with each attack and we will continue to hone our responses. They will attack at our weakest points. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that untold numbers of attempts have already been thwarted and policies adjusted for these new scenarios.

As you say, we must be vigilant. I believe President Bush is acting quickly, decisively, and with our best interests in mind. I am distressed that the President's critics and opponents seem to reiterate his policies, implying they are their own ideas. Actually, that's about the only bit of policy I've been able to glean from the Kerry platform - mere regurgitations of the Bush Administration's plans. And the media treats these revelations as brilliance. Sometimes I just want to scream.

It does read like a mystery - a novel. The President isn't the first one to point that out. It was written in this form on purpose.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I especially noticed this with Iraq. Bush had been telling everyone (media included!) that as we moved away from strictly fighting and towards handing over sovereignty, that the coalition would take a different shape. The President, A YEAR AGO (ironically during the now-infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech) laid out the detail on what was going to happen over the next year. As the next year unfolded, the strategy laid out in that speech is nearly spot on.

And, the Kerry camp, the demoSCUM, and the media, not only acted like, but actually said, "The President is coming towards our position".

Interestingly, the only position that the demoCREEPs were taking right about the time the President was making the "Mission Accomplished" was the Joe Wilson affair. The position they were taking at that time: Bush Lied!

How these people are even polling anywhere near the President is astounding to me, though completely understandable given the media whoring themselves out for the demoSCABs more than ever.

I think it is a great quote.

It DOES read like a novel. It is very readable, and if even a few more people read it as a result of this endorsement by the President, it will be all to the good.

The only thing I've found different from a mystery or novel is all those yellow highlighter marks I've been making in it.

There was a large staff in addition to the Commission members. Undoubtedly, some of those were responsible for actually doing the writing. Their fields of expertise are mentioned, so you can speculate.

I hope everyone here at least tries reading the report. You'll find it incredibly informative. Much is in there that has not been clear to anyone other than the most avid follower of the news, and even to them there is probably much to discover.

I was surprised to hear that it is believed that the passengers started to revolt one of the "tower" aircraft, for example... a bit too late to do anything, but they were not just being sheep, apparently.
